Liverpool Strike Deal for Marc Guehi as Transfer Fee and Payment Structure Unveiled

Marc Guéhi is reportedly completing his medical examination following Liverpool's successful agreement to acquire the Crystal Palace central defender.

Liverpool submitted an offer for Guéhi over the weekend, prompting an urgent reaction from Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who pleaded with chairman Steve Parish to reconsider his previous statement about potentially selling the defender during the summer transfer window if contract negotiations failed, with only twelve months remaining on his current deal.

Following these developments, Palace have been actively pursuing a replacement for Guéhi, joining the competition for Brighton & Hove Albion's Igor Julio and subsequently approving Guéhi's departure.

The Liverpool ECHO's Paul Gorst initially reported that Guéhi was completing his medical in London mere hours before the transfer window closed, staying in England's capital to expedite the procedure.

Official confirmation of the agreement quickly emerged. The Athletic reports a transfer worth £35 million ($47.3 million) has been finalized to bring Guéhi to Anfield, capping off an impressive transfer period for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have been left anxious due to new complications arising from Palace's situation. The Times reports their hunt for a replacement has encountered difficulties, with the Igor deal reportedly collapsing just hours before the deadline.

The Reds are simultaneously pursuing a deal to acquire Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak for a British record transfer fee of £125 million, while Harvey Elliott is anticipated to join Aston Villa on loan with a mandatory purchase clause.

Discussions with Guéhi focused on his ambition for regular playing time this season. The young centre-back is determined to secure his place in England's World Cup squad next summer and was reportedly willing to honor his Palace contract if staying with the Eagles better served his international goals.

At Anfield, Guéhi will compete with Ibrahima Konaté for the starting position alongside Virgil van Dijk. Konaté also has twelve months left on his contract and is reportedly a key target for Real Madrid in summer 2026.
