Liverpool Strike First in January Transfer Market with Confirmed Sale
Liverpool have announced the exit of left-back James Norris, who has secured a permanent move to Irish Premier Division club Shelbourne.
A native of Liverpool who progressed through the youth system from Under-9 level, Norris showed promise in the academy ranks and earned his senior debut in the memorable 5–0 loss to Aston Villa during the 2018–19 Carabao Cup quarter-final, entering as a substitute for a young Liverpool team filling in while the first team competed at the Club World Cup.
He made another substitute appearance against Shrewsbury Town in January 2022, and current boss Arne Slot was familiar with Norris. The defender was included in four matchday squads during the previous campaign in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League competitions.
Norris moved to Shelbourne on a temporary basis in February, and an official statement has now confirmed the transfer has become permanent.
"Everyone at Liverpool FC wishes James the best of luck for the future," the club stated.
Liverpool Anticipating Few January Exits

The situation surrounding star winger Mohamed Salah was anticipated to be the main focus of Liverpool's January transfer activity, but the improvement in his relationship with Slot is likely to temporarily halt speculation about a potential exit for the Egyptian forward.
Although Liverpool expect renewed uncertainty regarding Salah's future come summer, they still face several matters to resolve during the winter window.
Defender Joe Gomez has attracted attention, remaining a substitute option at Anfield with 18 months left on his deal, but Liverpool are very unlikely to sanction the exit of an important squad member given the shortage of defensive alternatives. Giovanni Leoni's extended injury means Gomez serves as the sole experienced backup to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.
Midfielder Wataru Endo has featured for only 43 minutes in Premier League action and is anticipated to attract offers from other clubs.
The most significant choice regarding departures may concern winger Federico Chiesa, who remains a target for Serie A sides after struggling to become a consistent starter following his 2024 arrival at Anfield.
Chiesa is not believed to be dissatisfied but has yet to start a match in either the Premier League or Champions League this term, with Italian clubs showing interest in providing the winger an opportunity to recapture the form he displayed during his time with Fiorentina and Juventus.
