Liverpool have confirmed that club icon Mohamed Salah will depart Anfield when the 2025–26 season concludes.
The Egyptian star, who penned a two-year contract extension the previous season, will not complete his deal following a difficult campaign in a Liverpool shirt, during which he was even temporarily left out of the squad.
"Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season," Liverpool announced on Tuesday evening.
"The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield."

Liverpool stated that Salah wanted to make the announcement to fans at the "earliest possible opportunity" to offer clarity on his future, as speculation continued to mount over a potential switch to the Saudi Pro League.
The 33-year-old attacker will leave Liverpool as one of the most celebrated players in the club's history. Salah guided the Reds to two Premier League titles and the Champions League, in addition to six further trophies.
To date, he has recorded 255 goals across 435 appearances and currently ranks third on Liverpool's all-time scoring chart. Salah is also the reigning PFA Player of the Year, having claimed the accolade in August for a record-breaking third time.
Salah's Legendary Liverpool Career Ends on a Whimper

Thus far, it has been a campaign to forget for Salah. The forward, who arrived at the club from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, has struggled to match the exceptional standards he set during his earlier years in a Liverpool shirt.
A very public dispute with manager Arne Slot back in December, combined with underwhelming performances on the field, have cast a shadow over what is now confirmed to be Salah's final season at Liverpool. Despite claiming the Premier League Golden Boot on four separate occasions, the forward has managed just 10 goals in 34 appearances this term.
There was even a growing belief that teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha should take Salah's place in the starting lineup amid Liverpool's struggles this season, most notably their disappointing Premier League title defense. The 20-time English champions sit fifth in the table and are barely holding on to a Champions League spot.
Yet Salah's turbulent 2025–26 campaign does not diminish his overall impact at Anfield. The Egypt international is already considered a club legend, and his legacy will undoubtedly endure, particularly if he can help Liverpool claim the FA Cup or Champions League before the season is out.
