Liverpool have drawn inspiration from a 1980s design for their official away kit for the 2026–27 campaign.
Like many Premier League clubs in the current era, the Reds have dipped into their archives for creative direction. The elegant white shirt featuring a red trim is taken directly from the 1989–90 era, when the club's third kit bore a notable similarity.
That iconic generation of Ian Rush, John Barnes and Alan Hansen would be the last to claim England's top division for Liverpool until Jürgen Klopp recaptured the title 30 years on. Appropriately, the Reds had Rush modelling the shirt during its launch event in New York.

Even the club crest has been revived from the 1980s. Rather than the familiar contemporary version featuring the Shankly Gates at Anfield, Liverpool's new/old badge is a minimalist design with the word 'Liverpool' divided around the lower point. The crest was unveiled in 1987 and remained in use for roughly five years before the current version began to take shape on the club's centenary in 1992.

Liverpool haven't stayed entirely rooted in tradition. Bruce Grobbelaar famously wore a classic green goalkeeper shirt—paired with notoriously brief shorts—back in the '80s. However, Alisson has been handed the task of wearing a rich purple design for the upcoming season.
It wasn't always a certainty that the commanding Brazilian would be the goalkeeper wearing Liverpool's new kit in 2026–27. For much of the early transfer window, Juventus were strongly linked with the 33-year-old stopper, who is set to be out of contract on Merseyside next year. Yet, even before officially meeting his No. 1, Andoni Iraola made his intentions clear — he wanted to retain him.

"I am very happy with the situation we have right now in the goalkeeping area," Liverpool's incoming manager stated earlier this month. "We have Alisson, we have Giorgi [Mamardashvili]. Now we are going to send Armin [Pecsi] on loan but we have the guarantee of the three keepers here. Freddie [Woodman] played some games last season, I think it is a guarantee for us.
"Alisson is also someone in a changing room that has lots of references, in terms of experience. He is someone that definitely will help us in this process of adaptation of the new signings and the young players. We need the references like Virgil [van Dijk], Alisson, Joe Gomez; players that have been here for a long time, and I am sure we will have this help."
