Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch Faces Injury Scare as Arne Slot Reveals Latest Update

Liverpool's midfield player Ryan Gravenberch may make his comeback when the faltering Reds welcome high-flying Aston Villa in Premier League action at Anfield this Saturday.

Apart from a red card ban during the season's opening weekend, Gravenberch had featured in every Premier League minute until sustaining an ankle problem one hour into the October 19th 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

Gravenberch missed the following league defeat to Brentford and this week's Carabao Cup exit against Crystal Palace, though the Dutch player probably wouldn't have participated in the cup tie regardless due to Arne Slot's extensive squad rotation.

Gravenberch isn't Liverpool's only injured player, with Alexander Isak, Alisson, Jeremie Frimpong and Curtis Jones all unavailable. However, following Wednesday evening's Palace match, Slot suggested Gravenberch had the strongest possibility of returning against Villa.

"I believe Ryan stands a good chance," the Liverpool manager stated.

"The remaining players will be... we'll have to wait until tomorrow and Friday. I'm uncertain about all of them, but I believe Ryan has the strongest possibility among them all."

The Palace defeat represented Liverpool's sixth loss in their previous seven matches across all tournaments. Heading into the weekend encounter with Villa, the defending champions will be eager to prevent a fifth straight Premier League loss.

Slot has stated that "losing so many" is already "excessive" for a club of Liverpool's stature, but the recent result doesn't alter the existing pressure.

"I don't believe it's feasible that if you lose five from six, losing six from seven creates additional pressure," he explained. "When you represent Liverpool as a player or manager, you understand the pressure exists. I don't think it has shifted significantly following this defeat [to Palace].

"There are numerous explanations for why we've lost six from seven, none justify accepting such frequent defeats. Liverpool losing this often is consistently unacceptable. Our display against Brentford, two days following our Frankfurt away fixture, showed a team struggling with three matches in seven days. In two days, we face Villa and the previous time I fielded a player I believed was prepared for that schedule was Alexander Isak, but he proved otherwise and suffered an injury."
