Luka Modric Delivers Stunning Verdict on Milan vs Real Madrid Comparison

Although Luka Modrić considers AC Milan a "world-class" institution, the ex-Real Madrid playmaker couldn't hide his disappointment regarding the Rossoneri's absence from European competition in 2025–26.

Following 13 seasons and 28 honors in Madrid's iconic jersey, Modrić is preparing to embark on a fresh journey in Italian football. The Croatian legend, universally recognized as among history's finest midfield talents, contributes vast expertise and technical ability to a Milan team in transition.

The Italian giants secured just eighth position in Serie A during the previous campaign, eliminating them from continental competition for the first time since the 2014–15 season. Milan's current situation contrasts sharply with Real Madrid's recent decade of Champions League supremacy, yet Modrić maintains his new employer deserves comparison with Los Blancos.

"Is Milan on Real Madrid's level? Absolutely," Modrić declared during his media appearance. "From my arrival, it was immediately apparent what a massive institution this represents. The infrastructure operates at elite standards—the personnel, supporters, venue.

"Every aspect reflects excellence. You sense the magnitude, identical to other elite establishments. Seven European championships, trailing only Real Madrid. That speaks volumes," Modrić elaborated.

Notably, two of Milan's seven Champions League victories occurred under Carlo Ancelotti's guidance, who also managed Modrić at Real Madrid. The Ballon d'Or recipient secured three continental titles under the Italian tactician before both left the Spanish capital this summer.

"Regarding Ancelotti? We conversed, and he shared nothing but praise for Milan," Modrić revealed. "Having served here as both player and manager, he provided comprehensive insights about the organization."

Modrić must temporarily pause his pursuit of European honors now that he's joined Milan. Nevertheless, at 39 years old, the midfielder acknowledges the advantages of avoiding continental fixtures.

"It's unfortunate that Milan aren't competing in Europe, given they're the second-most successful club behind Real Madrid," Modrić observed. "We face one match weekly. Perhaps that's beneficial since we'll have complete weeks for match preparation."

Replicating the achievements from his peak years at Santiago Bernabéu will prove challenging, but Modrić stands ready to assist Milan's recovery following a chaotic period that witnessed three managerial changes.

"I dedicated 13 years to the world's premier club and now join one that previously held Real Madrid's current status," Modrić reflected. "They've somehow lost that position. Milan must work toward reclaiming that standard. My responsibility is contributing maximally this season while savoring the experience."
