Luka Modric Reveals His Most Cherished Real Madrid Moment in Heartfelt Farewell Message

Luka Modrić has identified La Décima as the most cherished moment from his distinguished Real Madrid journey.

The midfielder, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in September, concluded his Madrid chapter following their Club World Cup exit, setting up a free transfer move to AC Milan that is anticipated to be confirmed shortly.

In a final interview with club representatives, Modrić looked back on his 13-year stint at the Santiago Bernabéu, revealing that securing Madrid's historic 10th Champions League trophy in 2014 remains closest to his heart.

"Selecting a single moment from countless treasured experiences here proves challenging, but I consistently emphasize and cherish La Décima, as that marked the beginning of everything," Modrić shared. "It initiated the supremacy of the past 12 or 13 years, which has been extraordinary, capturing six Champions League crowns in a decade.

"I frequently reference La Décima because it was remarkable, and our victory method perfectly embodies Real Madrid's essence—never surrendering and maintaining faith until the final whistle. We demonstrated that spirit in that match.

"The Cibeles celebration will also remain in my memory. It represented something truly magnificent and memorable for Real Madrid supporters, as the number 10 carries significance. For me personally, it's a meaningful number. Whenever I recall that celebration, it brings a smile to my face."

When contemplating his broader Madrid journey, Modrić acknowledged that the magnitude of his Bernabéu accomplishments hasn't fully registered yet.

"It's challenging to articulate, but the feelings are complex," he elaborated. "An extraordinary, triumphant and victorious period has concluded.

"What I've experienced brings me immense satisfaction. Recalling all my achievements here fills me with happiness, despite it being finished. At Real Madrid, I've developed both as an athlete and individual. Real Madrid has provided me with everything as a professional footballer, and I'll remain eternally grateful. I will forever support Real Madrid.

"It's been an extensive voyage, yet an unforgettable one. I've matured significantly as both a player and person. I've found another residence away from my homeland, as Madrid and Spain feel like my second home. I'm extremely content and confident that with time I'll gain even greater appreciation for my accomplishments, as I'll need time to process all the emotions and everything I've achieved here.

"I've never contemplated how I'd prefer to be remembered. However [supporters] wish to remember me. As a decent individual, above all else. And as an athlete who consistently gave everything, who showed respect to everyone: his rivals, his colleagues and the supporters; as a player who always devoted everything to Real Madrid."
