Manchester United secured their first Premier League double over Liverpool in ten years, as Kobbie Mainoo's superb second half effort clinched a thrilling 3–2 win for the home side.
The Red Devils came out firing, clearly intent on punishing their undermanned opponents at Old Trafford. Liverpool, missing key attacking players, were defensively shambolic, and United's new recruits made them pay. Matheus Cunha opened the scoring before Benjamin Šeško controversially added a second, appearing to use his hand.
Liverpool were there for the taking. The Reds once again struggled physically against a side adept on the break, yet somehow clawed their way back into the match before the hour mark.
A pair of Man Utd errors allowed Liverpool to level things up, with the momentum swinging firmly toward the visitors. Tense moments followed, but Mainoo's goal against the run of play triggered another dramatic shift in the contest.
This time, there were no slip-ups to hand Liverpool a lifeline. United held on to their narrow lead to secure their spot in next season's Champions League.
Heroes and Villains
Heroes

Man Utd's summer acquisitions shone again on the big stage, with Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško's goals propelling the dominant hosts into a commanding 2–0 lead at the break.
While Šeško pressed relentlessly and played with the assurance of a striker who has fully found his footing, Cunha's tenacity and hunger complemented a composed showing in possession before things unraveled for United.
And, naturally, how could we forget Kobbie Mainoo? What a way to mark your contract renewal.
Villains

Liverpool capitalised on two sloppy passes to haul themselves back into the match from seemingly nowhere, having put in a first half display that deserved heavy criticism.
Amad Diallo came on for the injured Šeško at the break, and he registered an assist with his very first touch. However, rather than finding a red shirt, Amad's dreadful pass inside was intercepted by Dominik Szoboszlai, who burst through and finished.
That moment transformed the match entirely, with Man Utd's display beginning to mirror Liverpool's dismal first half showing. The pressure got to the usually composed Senne Lammens, who was caught out by Alexis Mac Allister while attempting to play out to Casemiro. The Argentine nicked the ball back in a threatening area, and Cody Gakpo levelled in an instant.
Man Utd Player Ratings vs. Liverpool (4-2-3-1)

*Ratings provided by FotMob*
GK: Senne Lammens—4.9: It appeared Lammens was heading for a comfortable afternoon with Liverpool unable to break through, but he ultimately gifted the visitors a route back into the game.
RB: Diogo Dalot—6.8: Liverpool found it difficult to handle Dalot's overlapping runs in the early stages, with the right back proving a valuable attacking option. His forward ventures became far less frequent once the visitors found their footing.
CB: Harry Maguire—6.9: Caught out by Szoboszlai for Liverpool's opener, but that was the only significant lapse from Maguire throughout the match.
CB: Ayden Heaven—6.8: Heaven showed real composure at times, particularly when in possession. The young defender couldn't be held responsible for United's disastrous start to the second half.
LB: Luke Shaw—7.4: A fitness concern ahead of kick-off, Shaw featured in his 35th Premier League appearance of the season, picking up a yellow card along the way. He was largely dependable against the lively Jeremie Frimpong, aside from the opening 15 minutes after the break.
DM: Casemiro—7.5: Squandered a glorious headed chance at 2–2, having been a touch too eager to push forward when United were comfortably ahead. What exactly happened to United's midfield after the interval remains puzzling.
DM: Kobbie Mainoo—8.0: Imperious in the first half and ultimately the decisive figure in the match. That said, there were worrying signs in the second period, with both United midfielders caught out of position, leaving Liverpool free to exploit the space on the counter.
RW: Bryan Mbeumo—7.6: His wait for a goal contribution went on, but there were still encouraging signs in Mbeumo's display. His delivery was sharp, and his intelligent movement off the ball frequently went unrecognised by his teammates.
AM: Bruno Fernandes—7.9: Woodman's fingertips denied Man Utd's skipper a record-equaling 20th Premier League assist of the campaign. Fernandes' impact faded considerably after the break.
LW: Matheus Cunha—8.0: Got the ball rolling in an entertaining and rather peculiar football match with an early deflected strike. Cunha pressed relentlessly and posed a constant threat in tight spaces during the first half.
ST: Benjamin Šeško—7.3: His strong end to the season rolled on into Sunday, even if his bundled finish owed more to fortune than skill — and arguably should have been disallowed for handball. Taken off at halftime with a suspected knock.
SUB: Amad Diallo (46' for Šeško)—5.6: Never truly recovered from his costly mistake, failing to make any real impact on the game.
SUB: Patrick Dorgu (76' for Mbeumo)—6.2: Could have made better use of the attacking opportunities that came his way, though his return to the side will certainly be a boost.
SUB: Joshua Zirkzee (87' for Cunha)—N/A
SUB: Leny Yoro (90' for Fernandes)—N/A
Subs not used: Altay Bayındır (GK), Noussair Mazraoui, Tyrell Malacia, Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount.
