Man City Face Crystal Palace: Key Battles, Bold Predictions, and Expected Lineups Revealed

Man City Face Crystal Palace: Key Battles, Bold Predictions, and Expected Lineups Revealed

Manchester City must secure a victory against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Arsenal responded to City's commanding 3–0 win over Brentford by taking a major stride toward the championship on Sunday afternoon, despite their narrow victory over West Ham United being shrouded in controversy.

The struggling Hammers believed they had boosted their own survival prospects while handing City a lifeline when Callum Wilson slammed home a stoppage-time equalizer. However, the striker's effort was disallowed due to Pablo's perceived foul on David Raya during a set-piece scramble inside the Arsenal penalty area.

Consequently, the Gunners' advantage was extended back to five points with precious little time left in the 2025–26 season. City can cut that gap to two with a midweek win, but they'll need either the already-relegated Burnley or a Conference League final-focused Palace to do them a huge favor in Arsenal's remaining two matches.

The Eagles are largely playing for a better finishing position in the lower half of the table domestically, yet they still managed to dent Everton's European ambitions by snatching two points from the Toffees at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Following the drama of last Monday night, Manchester City rediscovered their trademark composure at the weekend when European hopefuls Brentford came to the Etihad Stadium. They hoped their convincing triumph would have rattled Arsenal, but fate appears to be guiding the Gunners toward their first league title in 22 years.

All City can do now is win their remaining games and hope the north Londoners stumble unexpectedly. The threat of relegation always made West Ham City's most likely source of assistance, but Arsenal still have to travel to Selhurst Park on the final day.

Palace certainly showed no signs of distraction at the weekend, and Oliver Glasner will demand high standards to be upheld right up until their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano. This could therefore be a potentially difficult evening for the hosts, who also have the FA Cup final on the horizon.

Prediction: Man City 2–1 Crystal Palace

Man City Predicted Lineup vs. Crystal Palace

Man City lineup

Rodri failed a late fitness assessment ahead of Saturday's win and is unlikely to be fit enough to start midweek. The Spaniard will be aiming to be available for the FA Cup final after picking up a groin injury during last month's victory over Arsenal, and could be in the frame for substitute minutes against Palace.

Abdukodir Khusanov has been a regular fixture in City's backline recently but missed the Brentford match due to a knock he picked up on Merseyside. While the Uzbek defender has been photographed back in training ahead of Wednesday's fixture, Khusanov may be saved for Saturday's final.

Rúben Dias is a candidate to fill in for the former Lens centre-back in Guardiola's side after being named among the substitutes last time out. Dias has recovered from a thigh problem that had sidelined him since mid-March.

The forthcoming Wembley trip could prompt Guardiola to rotate his starting eleven here, with Omar Marmoush among those in line to be rewarded after impressing from the bench against Brentford.

Man City predicted lineup vs. Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guéhi, Aït-Nouri; González, Silva; Savinho, Marmoush, Doku; Haaland.

Glasner was not exactly handed a deep squad to work with this season, and careful player management will be crucial with the Conference League final on May 27 approaching.

The visitors are definitely without former Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah and midfielder Cheick Doucouré through injury, while January signing Evann Guessand remains a doubt. Croatian full-back Borna Sosa is also unlikely to play.

Jean-Philippe Mateta netted as a substitute against Everton and is expected to start on Wednesday night, but the in-form Ismaïla Sarr poses the greatest threat to the title contenders. Palace's attack could be rounded out by Yeremy Pino, given Brennan Johnson's ongoing difficulties.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs. Man City (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Canvot; Muñoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Pino, Sarr; Mateta.
