Man City Reaches Final Decision on Ederson's Future Amid Growing England Goalkeeper Links

Manchester City are reportedly determined to retain Ederson in their squad for the 2025–26 campaign, even as the goalkeeper attracts attention from Saudi Pro League clubs and Galatasaray.

Pep Guardiola's team is experiencing significant squad changes. Manchester City have already confirmed the departures of club icons Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker this summer, while simultaneously bringing in five new signings, including Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Aït-Nouri and Rayan Cherki.

Amid all the transfer speculation, Ederson's situation continues to generate uncertainty. The Brazilian shot-stopper rejected attractive Saudi Pro League proposals last summer and has now become a key target for Galatasaray, with The Independent suggesting the Turkish club are "confident in signing" the 31-year-old.

However, the British publication indicates that Manchester City are "keen to ensure" Ederson remains with the Citizens.

While retaining Ederson at the Etihad would guarantee Guardiola his preferred goalkeeper, it might also mean the club loses out on transfer revenue for the Brazil international, whose deal runs until June 2026.

If Manchester City choose to release the goalkeeper when his contract expires next season, he would leave without any transfer fee, providing no financial return for the club.

Ederson has been exceptional for the English side since his 2017 arrival, making 372 appearances in all competitions. Despite briefly losing his starting position to Ortega last season, Guardiola restored the 31-year-old's status in the second half of the 2024–25 season and during this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.

Manchester City's desire to keep Ederson appears to match the player's own intentions after he asked supporters not to trust what he termed "fake news" about his future back in June.

If Galatasaray's proposal proves irresistible to either the goalkeeper or the English champions, Manchester City might pursue former academy graduate James Trafford.

ESPN suggests the club would "consider making a move" for the 22-year-old this summer if necessary. The Citizens could activate a buy-back clause for Trafford, who moved to Burnley in 2023.

Manchester City also have new acquisition and ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli as an option.
