Manchester City are said to have signaled to RB Leipzig their intention to submit a bid for Yan Diomande, just one day after reports emerged of a rejected offer from Real Madrid.
Diomande's future is rapidly turning into the defining transfer story of the summer, following a standout 2025–26 campaign in the Bundesliga and an impressive showing at the World Cup with Côte d'Ivoire.
The 19-year-old indicated a preference for Paris Saint-Germain over Liverpool when it appeared the decision would come down to those two clubs. However, Real Madrid backed up their interest by tabling a package valued at $115 million (€100 million).
That figure was rejected by Leipzig, who simply want a higher fee. Nevertheless, Los Blancos are believed to have made headway in talks with the player's representatives regarding personal terms. PSG, despite an apparent understanding with Diomande, have yet to submit a formal club-to-club proposal.
Now, it appears Manchester City have no intention of sitting on the sidelines while others pursue what looks set to be a generational talent. According to Sky Sport Germany, the Premier League club has "verbally indicated" a willingness to match the $115 million figure. That is unlikely to satisfy Leipzig, who stand to benefit from a bidding war and are holding out for "significantly more."
No formal written offer from City has been submitted at this point.
Where Would Yan Diomande Fit Into Man City's Team?
The most natural position for Diomande, who is comfortable on either wing, would be on Manchester City's right flank. Jérémy Doku has the left side firmly under his control, with Rayan Cherki operating as a creative force in the No. 10 role. Phil Foden also adds versatility, capable of slotting into any of those positions. Together, Diomande, Doku and Cherki would offer exceptional flexibility and attacking fluidity.
The pursuit of a winger — which is now also thought to include Chelsea's Pedro Neto — adds further weight to expectations that Savinho will be on his way out soon. A move to Tottenham Hotspur for the 22-year-old Brazilian has been the subject of speculation for some time.
However, it could also eat into Antoine Semenyo's playing time. The Ghana international netted five goals in his opening eight Premier League outings for City following his January switch from Bournemouth, before his form dipped considerably, managing just two more goals in his subsequent nine appearances.

While he occasionally deputized for Erling Haaland as a No. 9 and featured on the left wing on a few occasions, the right side had become Semenyo's primary territory.
City may need to work hard to persuade Diomande to choose them ahead of Real Madrid or PSG, but if it ultimately comes down to outspending the competition, one of football's most exciting emerging talents could be pulling on a sky blue shirt come September.
