Manchester City cannot count on an unlikely Burnley upset in north London and will almost certainly need to defeat the in-form Bournemouth to keep the Premier League title race alive heading into the final day.
They enter Tuesday's fixture on the heels of claiming the FA Cup with a 1–0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday. Former Cherries forward Antoine Semenyo was the standout performer under the arch, settling the final with a brilliant flick, and he'll be eager to make an impact at his former club.
Two domestic cup triumphs mean 2025–26 can't be written off as a failure for City, but Pep Guardiola, potentially managing his last two matches at the helm, is someone who hungers for the biggest prizes available.
Missing out on the league title in consecutive seasons will sting the Spaniard deeply.
Center Back Dilemma After Gvardiol Comeback
Rodri's return from injury for Saturday's FA Cup final means Manchester City head into the final week of the campaign in full health.
That said, Guardiola faces a selection headache at center back with Joško Gvardiol back in contention. The Croatian was unexpectedly handed a starting berth last Wednesday against Crystal Palace before the partnership of Marc Guéhi and Abdukodir Khusanov was reinstated for the cup final.
Given the magnitude of the occasion, Guardiola is unlikely to make wholesale changes midweek, and aside from the second-half meltdown at Everton, the Guéhi and Khusanov combination has been outstanding. Rúben Dias has also seen limited opportunities since returning from his own injury layoff.
Man City Predicted Lineup vs. Bournemouth (4-2-3-1)
GK: Gianluigi Donnarumma—James Trafford has kept two clean sheets in domestic cup finals this season, while Donnarumma has been putting in the hard yards in the league. He's unlikely to be as untroubled as he was against Crystal Palace when City make the trip to the south coast.
RB: Matheus Nunes—Guardiola's other options have barely featured during the closing stages of the campaign. It's been Nunes all the way.
CB: Abdukodir Khusanov—Khusanov was superb in Saturday's final, with his exceptional recovery pace proving vital in shutting down Chelsea. He must keep his place against this high-energy Bournemouth side that will look to exploit the space in behind the City defense.
CB: Marc Guéhi—The defender has bounced back well since his costly mistake at Everton and should hold his position despite Gvardiol being available once more.
LB: Nico O'Reilly—The young fullback's battle with Brazilian talent Rayan could be a defining contest on Tuesday evening.
CM: Bernardo Silva—The Portuguese midfielder added his 19th piece of silverware with the club at the weekend, and he won't allow City's Premier League ambitions to fade without a fight until the very end.
CM: Rodri—Having only just returned from a groin problem, Rodri was unable to complete 90 minutes at the weekend, and starting him again so soon on Tuesday carries an element of risk given the tight schedule.
RW: Antoine Semenyo—Bournemouth have gone unbeaten since allowing Semenyo to depart in January, but the Ghanaian winger is thriving at his new home regardless. After a quiet spell, Semenyo has delivered in consecutive matches.
AM: Rayan Cherki—The French playmaker entered the fray in the second half at Wembley, coming on for Omar Marmoush. Cherki has been somewhat subdued over the past couple of weeks, but he's always capable of producing a moment of magic.
LW: Jérémy Doku—The elusive Belgian has been a standout performer on the road during the run-in. Doku has contributed to four goals across his last four away appearances, including a brace in the wild 3–3 stalemate at Everton.
ST: Erling Haaland—While Doku has taken time to hit his stride away from the Etihad, Haaland has been a consistent threat on the road throughout his Manchester career. City's frontman has registered 15 Premier League goal contributions away from home this season, with only Sergio Agüero having surpassed that mark among City players.
