Man City's January Recruit Already Heading Out on Loan Deal

Manchester City defender Vitor Reis has left the club to join Girona on a season-long loan deal.

City invested £29.6 million ($39.8 million) to secure the 19-year-old Reis from Palmeiras during the January transfer window as part of their emergency squad overhaul, however the young Brazilian managed only one minute of Premier League football in the latter half of the campaign.

Reis accumulated four total appearances, making two starts in the FA Cup and one in the Club World Cup, but found it difficult to secure places in matchday squads during the season's closing weeks.

To advance his development, Reis has now moved to Girona, which is part of the City Football Group, for the coming season.

Reis represents the 16th player to depart City for a temporary stint with Girona but the first since 2022, when right back Yan Couto and midfielder Yangel Herrera moved to Estadi Montilivi. Herrera ultimately signed permanently with Girona the subsequent summer, while Couto's loan arrangement lasted until 2024.

Fellow January acquisition Abdukodir Khusanov made 10 appearances after his mid-season transfer and remains among several options for manager Pep Guardiola.

Rúben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones represent the established centre backs at City, while Joško Gvardiol may feature more frequently in a central position following the summer acquisition of left back Rayan Aït-Nouri.

Right back is considered a position of concern for Guardiola, who approved Kyle Walker's permanent transfer to Burnley earlier in the summer. Matheus Nunes, primarily a midfielder, finished the season as the regular starter but Guardiola is reportedly interested in Newcastle United's Tino Livramento.
