Man Utd Brace for Brutal 2026–27 Champions League Draw as Projected Pots Seal Their Fate

Buoyed by a fresh surge of attention following Gianni Infantino's recent controversies, UEFA is gearing up for yet another Champions League campaign.

The shine of the revamped format faded somewhat in its second year, and the oversized league phase is certain to face renewed scrutiny amid mounting concerns about player workload. The 2026 World Cup stretched the schedules of countless players, and the 2026–27 season looks unlikely to provide much relief.

The league phase draw is on the horizon, and automation will once again take center stage. The era of human-operated Champions League draws is over, with artificial intelligence—alongside the format overhaul—delivering far greater efficiency but far less drama.

Below are all the confirmed clubs for the 2026–27 Champions League along with their projected pot assignments for the league phase draw.

The full field of 36 clubs for the 2026–27 edition will be finalized after the playoffs, with seven berths still to be decided.

The Premier League and La Liga lead the way in terms of representation, each contributing five clubs to the league phase. Among those 10 sides, six—Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid—will be placed in Pot 1.

Last season's runners-up Arsenal have overtaken Borussia Dortmund in the coefficient rankings to secure a spot in the top pot. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan round out Pot 1 alongside those six clubs.

Europa League champions Aston Villa land in Pot 2, courtesy of their quarterfinal run in this tournament two years prior. They are accompanied by Manchester United, making their return to the elite stage after a two-season absence. Roma and Real Betis, both ending lengthy spells away from the Champions League, also find themselves in Pot 2.

Sporting CP, Porto, Club Brugge, and PSV Eindhoven have likewise been placed in Pot 2, reflecting their consistent presence in the competition throughout this decade.

While Pots 1 and 2 are fully set, Pots 3 and 4 still have vacancies to fill. Feyenoord, Lille, RB Leipzig, Napoli, Villarreal, Galatasaray, and Shakhtar Donetsk are confirmed for Pot 3, while Slavia Prague, Stuttgart, Como, and Lens are slotted into Pot 4.

At present, Serie A club Como stand as the only first-time Champions League participants in the 2026–27 league phase.

When is the 2026–27 Champions League League Phase Draw

The 2026–27 league phase draw is scheduled for Aug. 27—the day following the conclusion of the playoffs.

The automated ceremony will be held at UEFA's base in Nyon, Switzerland, with proceedings expected to begin at 5 p.m. BST, 12 p.m. ET, 9 a.m. PT.
