Man Utd Drop Major Clue on Rashford's Fate as Squad Number Revelation Speaks Volumes

Manchester United have officially handed Marcus Rashford the club's available No. 9 shirt, appearing to settle any lingering doubts over his future at Old Trafford.

Rashford had been widely tipped to secure a permanent move to Barcelona following a successful loan stint last season, but the Spanish giants ultimately looked in other directions. With the transfer window closing in just over a week, a departure now seems increasingly remote.

Appearing to accept that Rashford will remain at the club, United confirmed the England international will don the No. 9 jersey this campaign after it was freed up by Rasmus Højlund's exit to Napoli.

Rashford had been sporting the No. 9 throughout preseason but had not been officially assigned the number. He was notably absent from the squad number listings in the matchday program for Saturday's fixture against Hull City.

Senne Lammens also picks up a new number this season alongside Rashford. The first-choice goalkeeper has claimed the No. 1 shirt, previously belonging to Altay Bayındır before it became available following his loan move to Celta Vigo over the summer.

Lammens had carried the No. 31 during his maiden season, but that number has since been passed on to 19-year-old attacking midfielder Shea Lacey, who moves up from the No. 46.

United's recent arrivals have also had their squad numbers officially confirmed. Karl Darlow takes No. 12, Andrey Santos is assigned No. 17, Youri Tielemans receives No. 18, and young winger Tynan Thompson has been given No. 27.

Sitting at the foot of the squad list is 15-year-old prodigy JJ Gabriel, who has been given the No. 77. His preseason appearance made him the youngest player ever to feature for United, though since it came in a friendly, it does not count as the official record.

Should Gabriel make a competitive appearance before Oct. 25, he will officially become United's youngest-ever player.

Several numbers remain unassigned, with one expected to go to midfielder Carlos Baleba once his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion is finalized. His favored No. 17 is already taken, though he has recent experience wearing both No. 20 and No. 24.
