Man Utd Eyes Blockbuster €70 Million Raid on Barcelona Star Midfielder

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to submit a substantial offer for Barcelona's midfield talent Fermín López, according to sources from Spain.

The Red Devils are seeking to strengthen additional squad positions after their costly signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. A forward remains the top priority, while a new keeper could be pursued if suitable opportunities emerge.

Fabrizio Romano has verified that a central midfielder is now part of United's transfer plans, with SPORT quickly identifying Fermín as a potential target.

According to the report, United have approached Barcelona and expressed readiness to offer up to €70 million (£60.9 million, $80.7 million) for Fermín this summer, having shown previous interest during discussions regarding Marcus Rashford's loan arrangement.

Fermín has previously turned down opportunities to depart Barcelona—with Arsenal and Chelsea mentioned as interested parties from earlier this summer—but United are preparing a substantial contract proposal to persuade the 22-year-old to make the move.

Although Barcelona would ideally retain Fermín, their requirement to generate revenue through player departures is well-documented. They reportedly prefer selling Marc Casadó but would consider negotiations for Fermín at this valuation.

The ultimate choice lies with Fermín, who is anticipated to receive an opportunity to potentially double his current wages by joining Manchester.

Fermín understands his position as a non-guaranteed starter at Barcelona but was content with his contribution last season and appreciative of manager Hansi Flick's confidence in him during crucial matches when the La Liga championship remained undecided.

The prospect of securing regular playing time elsewhere might attract Fermín as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
