Roma are reportedly becoming increasingly impatient with Manchester United's inaction over midfielder Manu Koné, with a looming deadline that could pressure the Red Devils into making a swift decision.
United have already secured signings of both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans but continue to pursue a third midfield addition, with French international Koné becoming more frequently linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
Financial concerns appear to be playing a role at United, with club executives hesitant to commit to any transfers until they are confident in a target's value before intensifying their pursuit. According to Corriere dello Sport, that approach does not sit well with Roma.
Roma's financial situation is under UEFA scrutiny following violations of Financial Fair Play rules dating back to the 2021–22 season. As part of a settlement deal, reports indicate Roma must generate approximately $57 million (€50 million, £43 million) before the July 31 deadline.
There had been cautious optimism that Koné would have already been offloaded for that kind of fee, with numerous clubs known to be circling, but nothing concrete has come to fruition so far. Roma are prepared to sell but may only remain open to doing so for a limited time.
Man Utd Still Deciding on Next Midfield Target
The mounting pressure on Roma to offload players, combined with Koné's relatively accessible price tag, makes the French international an exceptionally compelling option in a midfield market brimming with potential candidates.
High-profile names such as Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid are being considered, along with Premier League talents including Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth pair Alex Scott and Tyler Adams. United are reluctant to rush their next decision and are still working to identify their primary target.
"Man Utd spoke to the agents of [Koné]," Fabrizio Romano disclosed. "Man Utd had concrete conversations with the agents of the player, but Man Utd are yet to reach out to Roma because they are yet to decide which player they want as defensive midfielder.
"So Man Utd have not started an official negotiation with Roma, have not sent an official bid for Manu Koné because of what they want to do in midfield."

Koné appears to be a sensible choice financially but carries the uncertainty of having no Premier League experience. Tielemans is a well-established figure in England's top division and Santos, despite his youth, gained familiarity with the Premier League during his stint at Chelsea, yet how Koné would fare in the league remains an open question.
United also have domestic targets who may carry less risk but come with heftier price tags, meaning the Red Devils must establish their priorities—and do so as quickly as possible.
