Man Utd Get Major Injury Boost as Key Player Returns for Crucial Premier League Stretch

Manchester United have announced that Patrick Dorgu has resumed individual training as he pushes to feature again before the campaign concludes.

Dorgu suffered a hamstring injury back in January and has been absent ever since, limiting him to just two outings during the remarkable turnaround under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

United continue to avoid setting a specific timeline for Dorgu's return but have happily confirmed that the young Danish international is back on the training pitch, working solo in the latest stage of his rehabilitation.

Dorgu is aiming to return before the season wraps up, with optimistic reports suggesting a potential comeback around mid-April.

Since arriving at United midway through the 2024–25 season, Dorgu has experienced an inconsistent run of form. Signed specifically to support Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, he was unable to prevent the manager from being dismissed less than a year into his tenure.

The outlook seemed rather gloomy for Dorgu, until he began to reinvent himself as an attacking option.

Primarily a left back, Dorgu's last seven Premier League appearances have seen him deployed much higher up the pitch, either as an attacking midfielder under Amorim or as a wide player following Carrick's appointment. That positional shift helped Dorgu deliver some of his finest displays in a United shirt.

Dorgu started both of Carrick's opening two matches as a left winger and found the net in each, helping United beat Manchester City and Arsenal before picking up a hamstring problem shortly before the final whistle against the Gunners.

The momentum United have built over recent months has softened the impact of Dorgu's absence. It has been easy to overlook just how effective he was at the beginning of Carrick's tenure and, while the team may not have suffered without him, things could have been even more impressive had Dorgu stayed fit.

His upcoming return will present a selection dilemma for Carrick, with Matheus Cunha having thrived in his own stint on the left flank, but these are the kinds of challenges managers relish. The extra cover will be a welcome addition to a squad that is desperately thin out wide following Amorim's clearout of wingers.

Dorgu will still require a few more weeks on the sidelines, but if his recovery stays on track, his return could arrive just as other players are in need of a breather. In the race for Champions League qualification, that could easily prove decisive for United.
