Man Utd Hunt Real Madrid's Top Target as Backup to Carlos Baleba Deal

Manchester United have emerged as the newest club showing interest in Stuttgart's midfield talent Angelo Stiller, according to recent reports, as they continue their hunt for alternatives to Carlos Baleba.

Baleba represented United's ideal midfield target during the summer transfer window, but negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion, who insisted on a fee exceeding £100 million ($134.3 million), rapidly demonstrated that a summer transfer was unfeasible.

As a consequence, United have been exploring alternative options and, per Sky Sports News, Stiller has emerged as one of their potential targets.

The 24-year-old experienced his breakthrough campaign with Stuttgart during the previous season, with his impressive performances securing him a spot on Real Madrid's transfer wishlist as they continue seeking replacements for the playmaking qualities of Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić in their midfield.

The Spanish giants eventually decided against pursuing Stiller, choosing instead to hold out for an elite-level signing to become available, which has opened the door for United to express their interest.

Discussions between the clubs have not yet commenced, leaving Stuttgart's valuation of Stiller unknown. His contract includes a release clause valued at €40 million (£34.6 million, $46.5 million), though this provision only becomes active from 2026.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Stuttgart retain the ability to void this release clause at any moment by paying €2 million directly to Stiller, providing them with significant leverage over his transfer situation.

Currently, United's main focus remains on player departures to generate revenue. Negotiations continue regarding potential exits for Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho, though all three players have set conditions that have created obstacles for United's plans.

Forward Rasmus Højlund may also depart during the transfer window's final days, although he remains unwilling to consider anything beyond a permanent transfer.
