Man Utd Loanee Plots Stunning Old Trafford Comeback This Summer
André Onana is reportedly eager to reclaim his position as Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season after Ruben Amorim's exit, according to recent reports.
Amorim had benched Onana at the start of this campaign and eventually brought in Senne Lammens as his replacement, leading to the Cameroon keeper's season-long loan move to Trabzonspor without any option to buy clause.
Despite earlier suggestions that Onana's prospects of returning to Old Trafford were virtually non-existent, The Guardian reports that the 29-year-old is now considering his future with United and believes he'll receive a genuine opportunity to prove himself to the incoming manager upon his summer return.
Trabzonspor are reportedly keen to secure Onana's services on a permanent basis, though it seems the goalkeeper has his sights set on a Premier League return instead.

Amorim's choices during his troubled tenure as United boss were frequently questioned and criticized by frustrated supporters, though his decision to bring in a new goalkeeper received widespread approval.
United invested £47.2 million ($63.7 million) to secure Onana from Inter in 2023, convinced they had acquired a keeper who could define an era. While Onana's commitment and determination to meet expectations cannot be questioned, his performances on the pitch painted a different picture.
A string of expensive mistakes continued to mount pressure on United. Though Onana wasn't the sole underperformer during his two seasons at Old Trafford, the nature of goalkeeping means errors carry greater consequences, and club officials eventually concluded that change was necessary.
Enter Lammens, positioned almost as Onana's opposite. The 23-year-old represents a reliable goalkeeper whose key strengths lie in his calmness and consistency—someone who epitomizes 'safe hands' and consistently delivers solid 7/10 performances. To his credit, Lammens has provided exactly that.
Recording five clean sheets across 22 appearances in all competitions isn't remarkable, but it didn't need to be. United simply sought someone who could inspire confidence in the defense ahead of him, even when inevitable errors occur.
"You need a goalkeeper who's dependable, trustworthy and, rather than adding to the confusion, you want him to eliminate chaos and bring stability," interim manager Michael Carrick recently commented about Lammens. "I believe Senne provides that.
"He can be reserved at times and modest, but he possesses genuine mental strength. Stepping into such a significant role—it's demanding for some."

Carrick seems to have indicated that, given the choice, he would support Lammens ahead of Onana. Fortunately for the Trabzonspor loanee, Carrick might not be the one making this decision.
The interim manager will certainly be consulted for his assessment of the squad, but the stronger influence will come from whoever occupies the manager's position next season. This could indeed be Carrick, who has clearly impressed during his temporary role, but it might equally be someone else entirely.
In contemporary football, ultimate decisions typically rest with those in executive positions. This reflects the 'Head Coach versus Manager' discussion that troubled Amorim, who desired greater input in transfer matters but was expected to concentrate on coaching duties.
United's next permanent manager will need to grasp the power structure at Old Trafford. While their transfer input won't be completely absent, they will defer to United's recruitment department, led by football director Jason Wilcox.
Wilcox is believed to have influenced the decision to part ways with Onana last summer and may maintain that position regarding a player who has allowed 30 goals in 20 matches during his stint in Turkey.
However, Onana is scheduled to return to United this summer, with two years remaining on his deal. Should he not be welcomed back into the team, a permanent departure would be the favored solution before Onana's market value decreases further.
