Man Utd Managerial Target Breaks Silence: "I'm Keeping Close Tabs" on Old Trafford Opportunity

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner acknowledged that he is "monitoring" the speculation connecting him with a potential move to Manchester United, but downplayed suggestions that he will be taking over from Ruben Amorim in the near future.

The Austrian manager is naturally attracting attention. Saturday's last-minute triumph against Liverpool stretched Palace's undefeated streak to 18 games in all competitions, matching the longest run without defeat in the club's history, originally achieved in 1969.

Glasner also brought Palace's 164-year trophy drought to an end by guiding them to FA Cup final success against Manchester City last May. Three months afterward, the Eagles secured a second title with a Community Shield victory over Liverpool.

United have experienced a starkly different period. While Glasner was celebrating at Wembley in May, Amorim was left to rue defeat in the Europa League final and the club's worst-ever Premier League campaign. United's performances have been equally disappointing this season, fueling widespread speculation about Amorim's job security as manager.

Some questionable reports have suggested Glasner as a possible replacement for the determined Portuguese manager. However, the quietly-spoken 51-year-old showed no interest in engaging with such speculation.

"I'm observing all the speculation—and that's exactly what it is—calmly and with complete composure," he told kicker this weekend, "concentrating on the everyday work with my players and staff, and attempting to enjoy it as much as I can."

Amorim is anticipated to maintain the support of United's hierarchy despite the team's declining form, though Glasner could well continue to make his counterpart manager appear inadequate from south London.

When asked about the formula behind Palace's historic run, Glasner simply stated: "I'm certain that consistency is an essential foundation for success, but you also require exceptional players, which we fortunately possess."

United should, in theory at least, boast a much stronger squad of players. It required €1.071 billion (£935 million, $1.253 billion) to build the roster at Old Trafford, compared to the €337 million which Palace's group is valued at. Yet, while the Eagles occupy third place in the early Premier League standings, United find themselves down in 14th. Not that Glasner is becoming overconfident.

"We're not currently concerned about final league position," he cautioned. "I remain very grounded and don't overlook that last season we had the poorest Premier League start in Palace's history, which concluded with a record points total."
