Man Utd Receives Encouraging News as Injured Trio Eyes Swift Return to Action
Positive fitness developments have surfaced regarding Manchester United's trio of Joshua Zirkzee, André Onana and Lisandro Martínez throughout a promising pre-season campaign across the United States.
Ruben Amorim has been forced to manage without these three players during the summer period as they work through different injury setbacks. However, recent updates indicate their comebacks may be approaching.
Zirkzee sustained what he characterized as "a minor injury" early in pre-season preparations and expressed optimism that "recovery shouldn't be prolonged" during his media appearance this week.
"I have excellent physiotherapists supporting me daily," he continued. "This isn't a major concern. Since it's pre-season, unlike last campaign when I was eager to return for the final, my focus now is simply being ready for the season opener."
Reports now suggest Onana may follow a comparable healing timeline. The frequently criticized goalkeeper was originally expected to miss the opening month of the 2025–26 Premier League campaign. However, the Manchester Evening News currently reports that Onana might be available as early as the exhibition match against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Aug. 9.
Martínez hasn't progressed as far as his colleagues. Out of action since tearing his ACL against Crystal Palace in February, the Argentine defender was expected to struggle returning before year's end. Nevertheless, Martínez has resumed ball work and grass running as he carefully progresses toward full team practice.
The 27-year-old's dedication has served as inspiration for Zirkzee throughout his rehabilitation. "A player who has greatly inspired me is Lisandro Martínez, who has been absent for an extended period," the Dutch forward recently shared. "Witnessing his mental preparation and his commitment to returning at peak condition is something I deeply appreciate.

Following a crushing Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Amorim's team was still processing the club's most disappointing Premier League performance ever. The absence of European competition risked undermining a crucial reconstruction period while multiple players already available to Amorim found themselves in the medical facility.
The Portuguese manager, nevertheless, maintained an optimistic stance. "Half a year ago, following my initial three matches with two wins and one tie, I warned you that difficult times were ahead. Now, after this catastrophic season, I want to assure you that brighter days are approaching," he addressed the expectant Old Trafford audience in May.
