Manchester United have announced the purchase of a large parcel of land near Old Trafford, where they intend to construct a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 seats.
Old Trafford has long been in a state of disrepair, frequently drawing ridicule in recent years, and the club carefully considered the challenges of refurbishment versus constructing an entirely new venue, ultimately opting for the latter.
The process is now underway as United have secured a 25-acre site located just 350 meters north-west of their existing ground, which will serve as the foundation for their new 100,000-seat home.
"Today's announcement reflects the progress we're making toward a world-class new home for Manchester United and marks a major milestone as we transition into the next phase of development," said Stadium Development CEO Collette Roche.
"Building so close to Old Trafford allows us to honor the heritage, traditions and rituals that mean so much to our supporters. We are dedicated to creating a world-class stadium alongside our fans, not simply for them, with atmosphere, affordability and accessibility central to our vision.
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity that aligns fully with both local and national growth goals. Securing the right land for our new home has been absolutely essential, and what we've acquired gives us the platform to deliver a truly world-class stadium that respects our history and embraces our future."
When Will Man Utd's New Stadium Be Built?

Adding further complexity to United's stadium plans is the commendable fact that the Red Devils are also aiming to lead a broader regeneration of the surrounding area as part of the development.
"The 370-acre regeneration initiative is expected to deliver approximately 15,000 new homes, including affordable housing, generate 48,000 new jobs locally and more than 90,000 across the country," United stated.
Planning for the project is still in progress and no official timeline has been established at this stage, though Roche has previously indicated the 2032–33 season as a possible target for a formal departure from Old Trafford.
