Manchester United are reportedly set to part ways with winger Jadon Sancho this summer, with the Englishman in discussions about a potential return to Borussia Dortmund.
United struck a deal worth $100.7 million (£73 million) to acquire Sancho from the German club in the summer of 2021, following his impressive contribution of 49 goals and 60 assists across three complete seasons in Dortmund's first team.
That level of performance failed to translate in the Premier League. Sancho has recorded just 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances for United, spending the past two seasons on loan at Chelsea and Aston Villa in spells that have done little to revive his career.
Sancho's contract at United is set to expire this summer and, despite United holding an option for a one-year extension, Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that a decision has already been made to let the 25-year-old leave on a free transfer.
Recognizing that any transfer fee for Sancho would be negligible this summer, United appear to have chosen to shed his substantial wages, bringing his troubled spell at Old Trafford to a definitive close.
Sancho Receives Several Offers Ahead of Free Transfer

United have had difficulty moving Sancho on over the years, most notably coming close when the winger joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024. An initial loan arrangement included an obligation to make the transfer permanent for $32.8 million (£25 million), but the Blues paid a penalty fee to withdraw from the deal the following year.
Sancho's wage demands have been a significant obstacle for interested clubs. Handed a high-profile salary following his big-money move to Old Trafford, the winger has struggled to find any club willing to match such a costly commitment, leaving United with no choice but to keep footing the bill.
With that contract winding down this summer, Sancho's financial expectations are anticipated to drop considerably. Interested parties would not only avoid paying a transfer fee, but would also expect more reasonable wage demands from a player who has managed just one goal in 31 outings for Villa this season.
Former club Dortmund, where Sancho also shone during a loan stint in the first half of 2024, are expected to push hard to secure his signature. Preliminary discussions have already taken place between the two sides.
Sancho has attracted "many enquiries" according to the report and has yet to determine his next destination. What appears clear, however, is that his chapter at Old Trafford is drawing to a close very soon.
