Man Utd Slams Door Shut on Major Star's Exit Following Ruben Amorim Departure
Manchester United have terminated discussions with Roma regarding the potential transfer of forward Joshua Zirkzee, according to confirmation from the Italian club's sporting director.
Although Zirkzee had begun to show signs of improvement under former manager Ruben Amorim, the Dutch player was still anticipated to depart Old Trafford during the winter transfer window, having only started four games across all competitions in the season's first half.
Roma appeared to be Zirkzee's most probable destination, with serious negotiations between both clubs taking place earlier this month. However, following Amorim's exit, the Serie A club has shifted focus to pursue other options.
In an interview with DAZN, Roma's Frederic Massara revealed that a transfer for Atlético Madrid's Giacomo Raspadori is nearly finalized after United indicated they would not negotiate regarding Zirkzee.
"Currently, United have suspended all transfer discussions following their managerial change," Massara stated.
"I have doubts they will reconsider their position."
Kobbie Mainoo Also Awaiting Clarity Over Man Utd Future

Zirkzee will be anxiously waiting for confirmation of United's new manager appointment. The Dutch striker faces an uphill battle to secure selection for the 2026 World Cup, having been absent from international duty since November 2024 due to his difficulties at United.
A new manager, potentially Ole Gunnar Solskjær or Michael Carrick, might choose to provide Zirkzee with increased playing time during the season's remainder, while a comparable decision must be reached concerning midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Similar to Zirkzee, the young English player had become dissatisfied with his limited opportunities under Amorim but hopes for renewed prospects under fresh leadership, with tactical adjustments likely shifting Mainoo from his previous position as backup to Bruno Fernandes.
Interim manager Darren Fletcher recently acknowledged that Mainoo is "in a positive mindset" following Amorim's departure.
Choices regarding Zirkzee and Mainoo's futures may be expedited in the upcoming days as United begins to address their squad availability issues. Fernandes has recovered from injury and Bryan Mbeumo is returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, offering additional alternatives for the incoming manager.
