Man Utd Star Fires Bold Warning Shot at Man City and Arsenal in Explosive Premier League Title Claim

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has declared that the Red Devils possess the "mentality" and ability to claim the Premier League title in the not-too-distant future.

The England international, whose stint at Old Trafford has been hampered by a string of injuries, didn't hesitate to set lofty expectations for United during the club's recent revival—and he even issued a challenge to the Premier League's top sides in the process.

"I have a goal of winning the Premier League," Mount said. "I've already lifted the Champions League trophy, but can we achieve that? Yes, I believe we can as a unit.

"It might seem like a distant dream right now, but you need that mentality to truly push yourselves as a group. We've already shown what we're capable of against the top clubs this season: Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal."

United have indeed defeated Man City, Liverpool, and Arsenal this season, along with a pair of victories over Chelsea under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. For a squad many still feel hasn't yet hit its ceiling, there's a genuine sense of optimism at Old Trafford for the first time in years.

While United's rocky start to the campaign under Amorim effectively ended their Premier League title hopes, their resurgence under Carrick has all but guaranteed Champions League football in 2026–27, which represents a significant turnaround.

"Yeah, I think we have the quality," Mount said when asked about the club's prospects of winning silverware in the coming seasons. "We haven't had a huge number of games this season, so perhaps it's been a bit more manageable. Next season brings many more fixtures, but that's exactly what you want as a player. That's what you expect from a club of this stature.

"You need those big occasions: Old Trafford, Champions League nights under the floodlights, the pressure of delivering and winning matches. That means everything, and it's what we thrive on as players. The supporters deserve nothing less."

Mount, who spoke following a special Make-A-Wish event for 11 children at St George's Park, arrived at Man Utd in 2023–24 but has managed only 69 appearances in total, contributing just seven goals. With his sights firmly set on his fitness and making an immediate impact next season, the 27-year-old is optimistic about playing a far more prominent role in his fourth year in a red shirt.

"Hopefully, I can be a massive part of [a title challenge] going into next season," Mount continued. "There are going to be a lot more games next season. I will always back myself. I know what I'm about and what I can bring, especially to the squad. I'm a bit older now, I've gained more experience."

Mount Backs Carrick for Permanent Job at Old Trafford

Michael Carrick

United have yet to make any significant announcements regarding their managerial plans for next season, with Carrick having been brought in solely as interim boss until the campaign concludes. However, the Englishman is widely considered the frontrunner to retain the role after delivering impressive results with the very squad that had floundered under Amorim.

Mount admitted he has no insight into what lies ahead for Carrick, but was full of admiration for the manager.

"From my perspective, he's been fantastic—speaking with me, I really appreciate the way he works and how he reads the game. We'll see what unfolds, but you can judge by the way we've been playing and performing since he arrived, and the position we now find ourselves in—we're really pushing forward."

United currently sit third in the table with 61 points and have suffered just two defeats since Carrick assumed control. It has been an impressive audition from the 44-year-old, though recent reports suggest he faces competition from Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, who is set to depart Vitality Stadium when the season ends.
