Man Utd Teammate Sparks Excitement With Stunning Casemiro Comeback Hint

Matheus Cunha has indicated that Casemiro's Manchester United teammates still harbor hopes of seeing the Brazilian continue at the club beyond the current campaign.

The four-year deal Casemiro penned at Old Trafford in 2022 expires next month, and both parties have agreed that the conditional one-year extension will not be activated. Nevertheless, the midfielder's recent showings have been accompanied by "one more year" chants from supporters eager to prolong the partnership just a little further.

At present, Casemiro is arguably performing at his highest level since making the move to England from Real Madrid. Despite the veteran feeling the moment is right to part ways, Cunha implied following Sunday's victory against Liverpool that many would welcome his continued presence.

"I play alongside him for the national team and I understand how valuable he is. He's a fantastic person, and having him in the changing room is something special," the attacker told the media.

"We're not entirely sure how things stand with his contract. [But] naturally, we—everyone—hope there's a bit more to come. I know it's more complicated than we've discussed, but, ultimately, you never know."

Why Casemiro Should Stay

The benefit is clear—Manchester United retain one of this season's standout performers.

As a five-time European champion with Real Madrid, Casemiro's vast experience would prove invaluable as the club returns to Champions League football in 2026–27. Even if his Premier League appearances are managed to preserve him for the less physically demanding yet technically elite European stage, his presence would help United navigate the reintroduction of UEFA competition to their schedule.

At 34, he is far from past his prime by modern standards and is clearly a well-respected dressing room personality whose continued involvement could provide an additional morale lift to the wider squad.

Even before Casemiro's exit was confirmed, United were already in need of midfield reinforcements. Now, the squad may require three or even four new central midfielders ahead of next season. Should Casemiro remain, the immediate pressure of finding his direct replacement could at least be pushed back to 2027.

Why Casemiro Should Leave

There is a clear financial cost for the club in convincing Casemiro to extend his stay. His reported weekly wage of $474,000 (£350,000) already makes him the top earner, and a 25% salary increase is set to take effect next season due to squad-wide contractual adjustments tied to Champions League qualification.

From Casemiro's standpoint, this could represent an ideal opportunity to bow out on a high. His recent form has played a significant role in Manchester United's return to where the club believes it rightfully belongs—competing among Europe's finest. In many respects, it would be the perfect conclusion to this phase of his career, leaving supporters with an entirely fond farewell.
