Manchester United stars Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes appeared to take subtle shots at former club colleague Alejandro Garnacho on social media following Saturday evening's Premier League victory against Chelsea.
Both United players made pointed remarks aimed at Garnacho online in the wake of the 1–0 result.
The win all but secures a return to Champions League football at Old Trafford next campaign, while dealing a serious blow to a Chelsea side that appears to be in a worrying decline.
Once considered the brightest talent in United's youth setup, Garnacho's chapter at the club came to an abrupt close last summer when Chelsea purchased him for approximately $54 million (£40 million). He had already fallen out of favor under Ruben Amorim due to conduct issues off the pitch as far back as the previous December, before publicly voicing his displeasure at being benched for May's Europa League final.
Behavior Towards Garnacho Hints at Bad Blood
Speaking ahead of facing his former club at Stamford Bridge, Garnacho acknowledged some regret about his departure and confessed that he "started to do some bad things" behind closed doors. One particularly notable public incident saw the winger show solidarity with Marcus Rashford by donning an Aston Villa shirt printed with the England forward's name.
A clip circulating online showing players in the tunnel before the match suggested a cold dynamic—not a single United player made any attempt to acknowledge Garnacho, despite most having shared a dressing room with him for years. He remained unused on the bench when Chelsea visited Old Trafford shortly after his move, and was consistently jeered by the away supporters.
Further footage from the final whistle showed multiple United players walking past Garnacho as they left the pitch without offering so much as a handshake.
Shaw's social media post carried a straightforward caption following the win: "Important win." However, it was his choice of photo—showing him sending Garnacho tumbling to the ground—that caught everyone's eye.
United supporters, quick to pick up on the deliberate image choice, found it highly amusing—one described it as "savage," while another wrote, "I see what you did there."
Bruno Fernandes responded with a meme captioned, "That's a violation."
Shea Lacey and Tyler Fletcher, who came through the academy a couple of years after Garnacho, posted laughing emojis. Former United defender Teden Mengi, who was on the periphery of the first team when Garnacho joined the academy in 2020 and now plies his trade at Luton Town, chimed in with the Roll Safe meme.
Garnacho Future Already Uncertain

Garnacho has endured a difficult debut season at Chelsea, struggling to nail down a regular starting berth. He has managed just 14 Premier League starts and a single league goal, while also starting only three Champions League matches before Chelsea's exit from the competition, contributing one goal against Qarabağ.
With the summer transfer window approaching, speculation is already growing that his stint at Chelsea may be brief, with reports suggesting the club are unconvinced by the winger and willing to listen to offers.
Early rumors indicate he could be a candidate to fill the void left by Rashford at Barcelona, with no certainty that the financially stretched Spanish giants will activate the purchase clause in the Englishman's loan deal. Garnacho, contracted at Chelsea until 2032, could appeal as a loan option.
Despite representing Argentina at international level, he was born and grew up in Madrid, having come through the youth ranks at Getafe and Atlético Madrid until the age of 16.
