RB Leipzig have reportedly initiated talks with their highly coveted attacker Yan Diomande over a contract extension that could feature a release clause, drawing the attention of his growing list of admirers.
Manchester United sit at the top of the queue among clubs monitoring Leipzig's thrilling young talent. The Red Devils are actively seeking a new left winger following Ruben Amorim's decision to phase out all natural wide players during his difficult rollout of the 3-4-2-1 formation.
Having come up short in a January pursuit of Antoine Semenyo, Diomande has surfaced as a viable option off the back of a stunning debut campaign in the Bundesliga. However, Leipzig have made their stance crystal clear, insisting on a fee in the region of $115.3 million (£87.3 million, €100 million) before considering any departure for the 19-year-old.
It seems improbable that United would commit that figure—which would rank Diomande as the second-costliest purchase in the club's history—for a player with barely a full year of senior football behind him. That said, the possibility of a lower release clause that would bypass any need for direct negotiations with Leipzig could prove attractive to the Old Trafford hierarchy.
Diomande stands at a fork in the road. According to Fabrizio Romano, there is a "50-50" chance he chooses between two routes: cashing in and departing this summer, or committing to a new deal that grants him greater control over his future down the line.

The player's new representatives are believed to be in dialogue with Leipzig over a fresh deal on a significantly enhanced salary. Having joined the Bundesliga club last summer in a $23 million move with just 10 appearances for Leganés to his name, Diomande had little leverage to demand a substantial wage. With half of Europe now watching closely after a run of 10 goals and seven assists in Germany's top division, there is room for a major pay increase.
Alongside the wage uplift, Diomande's new agreement would carry a commitment to remain in Saxony for at least one more year, along with the "potential inclusion" of a release clause.
This mirrors the route taken by United striker Benjamin Šeško during his time at Leipzig. After attracting strong interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer of 2024, the Slovenian forward signed a new contract a full year before eventually making the move to Manchester United.
Man Utd Face Stiff Competition for Yan Diomande

No player producing Diomande's statistics will be lacking for interested parties. As is customary for any Bundesliga standout, Bayern Munich have been identified as particularly eager suitors.
The reigning German champions are well stocked in wide attacking areas and recently handed Serge Gnabry a contract extension, though he struggles to displace first-choice starters Luis Díaz and Michael Olise. There will also be concern within the Bayern boardroom about obstructing the development pathway for homegrown talent Lennart Karl, while Jamal Musiala is equally capable of playing out wide.
Nevertheless, Bayern seldom pass up the opportunity to acquire the Bundesliga's finest talents. Much like the Bavarians, Paris Saint-Germain are reported to be "really attentive" to how Diomande's situation unfolds.
Beyond Europe's elite clubs, United also face domestic rivalry in the form of Liverpool. The Reds are on the hunt for a long-term heir to Mohamed Salah and have already seen any hopes of luring Olise away from Bayern firmly extinguished, potentially steering them toward a different Bundesliga target.
All of Diomande's admirers may need to exercise patience until 2027 to secure his signature should he proceed with the contract renewal. However, next summer's process could be considerably smoother if a release clause is written into the agreement.
