Manchester United will be severely undermanned when they face Como in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Red Devils enter the European fixture desperate to end a miserable six-game winless streak. Michael Carrick's side have not claimed three points since their 4–0 win over Sabah in their Champions League opener back on Sept. 10.
A victory in Italy would lift morale at United, but getting the better of Como will be far from straightforward for a team mired in such a slump. Cesc Fàbregas's young and dynamic squad has a talent for producing magical moments, and a Champions League night against one of the sport's most storied clubs is the ideal stage to make an impression.
A crippling injury crisis is also weighing heavily on United. Carrick provided updates on his unavailable players ahead of the fixture, and the news was consistently grim.
Man Utd Absentees Against Como
Leny Yoro

Before diving into all the players currently in the treatment room, let's address the obvious: Leny Yoro is unavailable for the Como match. The center back was dismissed in the team's 2–0 loss to Atlético Madrid last time out and is consequently suspended for Wednesday's game.
Once he completes his one-match ban, Yoro will be eligible to return for the Red Devils' next Champions League fixture against Roma on Nov. 3.
Lisandro Martínez

A week ago, Lisandro Martínez was venting his frustration following United's defeat to Atlético Madrid. Now, he won't even be on the pitch in Italy for the club's next European outing.
Martínez, who received only a fine for his heated outburst, managed just 45 minutes against Leeds United at the weekend. Carrick revealed the Argentine picked up a thigh injury, one that is keeping him back in Manchester during the midweek trip.
"Licha [Martínez] is not too bad, but he is not with us," Carrick confirmed on Tuesday. "We will have to see if he's ready for the weekend or not."
Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford's comeback to Manchester United has not gone as hoped. The England international has yet to register a single goal contribution across eight appearances and continues to deal with a persistent hip problem stemming from the 2026 World Cup.
He was an unused substitute at the weekend against Leeds and is expected to be absent again against Como.
"Marcus is still feeling a little bit of a hip issue that we are trying to overcome," Carrick disclosed in his pre-match press conference. The manager offered no specific timeline for the forward's return.
Kobbie Mainoo

There is considerably more ambiguity surrounding what has kept Kobbie Mainoo on the sidelines. United have not been transparent about the nature of his injury, but the problem has already ruled the midfielder out of the team's last two matches, a pattern set to continue.
"Kobbie, maybe 10 days or so but that's not exact," Carrick said on Tuesday, indicating how much longer the England international is expected to be out.
If Mainoo recovers broadly on schedule, he could be fit in time for the clash with Chelsea later this month.
Luke Shaw

It's almost a given to find Luke Shaw on these kinds of lists. The fullback is among the most injury-prone players around, and unsurprisingly found himself back in the treatment room after just one appearance following the September-October international break.
Shaw's injury has not been disclosed by United. Carrick also declined to give a specific recovery timeline, simply stating the left back will be sidelined a "little bit longer" than Mainoo, suggesting a return in November at the earliest.
Ayden Heaven

Compounding United's defensive problems is Ayden Heaven's illness. The center back was absent at the weekend due to the bug and has yet to shake it off.
Carrick confirmed the illness is keeping Heaven at home for the midweek trip. The positive news is that Heaven should be available to feature against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Šeško continues to be plagued by the shin injury that cut his season short last May. The problem kept the striker out of United's preseason and then resurfaced aggressively in September just when it appeared he had finally put it behind him.
He has remained on the sidelines ever since, and there is little in the way of encouraging news from United regarding his recovery.
"We are hoping soon that we will have a clear picture," Carrick said ahead of the team's clash with Como. "I am not trying to delay it.
"Hopefully next time we speak, maybe not tomorrow but by the end of the week we will have something a bit clearer. There is a bit of work going on at the moment so we will see what comes out of that."
One thing is certain: Šeško did not travel with the squad to Italy.
Patrick Dorgu

Patrick Dorgu was among those to suffer during the September-October international break. The Denmark international picked up a hamstring injury while on duty for his country in the UEFA Nations League.
Carrick previously acknowledged that Dorgu would be sidelined for a "number of weeks," and no further update has been provided since.
Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte was stretchered off during the 2026 World Cup after sustaining a knee ligament injury. The midfielder underwent surgery in July and is now navigating a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Ugarte has not featured for a single minute this season for United and is not expected to return until next year.
