Manchester United's troubles have been compounded by a concerning injury update on Benjamin Šeško, who is now expected to miss the rest of the calendar year.
The forward has featured in only six matches for the Red Devils this season, having sat out all of preseason due to injury, with his prolonged absence proving damaging for Michael Carrick as a string of poor results on the pitch puts his managerial role under serious threat.
Adding to the United manager's headaches, The Athletic have reported that Šeško will not be fit to return until January—by which time the 45-year-old may already have been relieved of his duties.
The Slovenian international is reported to have played through the final two months of last season while carrying the shin problem that continues to hamper him, a period during which he contributed to United's Champions League qualification.
United opted against an operation for the 23-year-old during the summer, choosing instead to allow him an extended break to facilitate his recovery. However, the club has since acknowledged that a lengthier rehabilitation is necessary to prevent the issue from resurfacing in the future.
From Bad to Worse for the Red Devils

When it rains, it pours.
In the midst of their deepening crisis—marked by internal unrest, embarrassing defeats and growing discontent among supporters—this news could not have come at a worse time for Carrick and his squad heading into a pivotal stretch of fixtures.
United have struggled to find their cutting edge throughout the opening two months of the campaign, largely relying on makeshift center forwards to fill the void left by Šeško. The club's only other recognized No. 9 is Joshua Zirkzee, who has endured a torrid spell in Manchester, managing just 10 goals across 83 appearances.
Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes have each been deployed as emergency strikers ahead of the Dutchman, yet none of the three have impressed in the position. Carrick must now find a lasting solution to his mounting attacking problems, with his job potentially on the line if he fails to do so.
Despite going eight matches without a win and suffering consecutive heavy defeats to Como and Bournemouth, Carrick is set to remain in the dugout for the upcoming Premier League fixture away at Chelsea on Saturday.
Nevertheless, anything short of all three points at Stamford Bridge could spell the end of his time at United, with a list of potential successors already being compiled behind the scenes.
