Man Utd's Nightmare Deepens as Devastating Injury Cripples Already Struggling Position

Already dealing with a troubling fitness update on skipper Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United suffered another blow when Patrick Dorgu picked up an injury just hours later.

The 21-year-old was handed a starting spot in Denmark's UEFA Nations League fixture against Wales on Sunday, but lasted only 30 minutes before being forced off the field. Dorgu, who had played 75 minutes against Norway just four days earlier, appeared to strain his hamstring while making a surging overlapping run down the left side.

The moment he stopped, he instinctively grabbed the back of his leg. Dorgu attempted to push through the discomfort, but eventually went down to the ground shortly after.

Medical staff attended to Dorgu before indicating he was unable to carry on. The winger hobbled off the pitch, triggering serious concern among fans in both Denmark and Manchester.

Dorgu's Injury Comes at the Worst Time for Man Utd

The pressure continues to build at Old Trafford, and the prospect of losing both Fernandes and Dorgu on the same day represents a significant setback for the Red Devils. United have claimed just one victory from their first five Premier League outings this season and have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup following a stunning collapse against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Sitting in 12th place, Michael Carrick's side are eager to recapture the momentum they built toward the end of last season. However, a growing injury list is only compounding the club's existing difficulties.

In addition to Fernandes and Dorgu, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo had already pulled out of England's squad through injury. Benjamin Šeško similarly withdrew from Slovenia's camp after a recurrence of his persistent shin complaint.

Meanwhile, Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt both stayed behind during the September-October international break to manage pre-existing fitness concerns.

United could find themselves severely short-handed for their return fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Oct. 10 — and that's before the club must then travel to the Spanish capital to face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League just three days after.

United's Transfer Blunder Comes Back to Haunt Them

Beyond midfield reinforcements, United were in clear need of a new left flank option heading into 2026–27. Yet the summer transfer window closed without the club securing a left back.

An unsuccessful attempt to sign Newcastle United's Lewis Hall left United without a viable alternative, and rather than reassessing their options, the club chose to gamble on 31-year-old Luke Shaw as the sole senior, natural left back in the squad.

That decision has already proven costly. Shaw missed both the Champions League opener against Sabah and the Manchester derby through injury, with Dorgu stepping in at left back on each occasion despite being primarily used as a winger under Carrick.

Now, with Dorgu potentially sidelined by a hamstring problem, United are left depending on the injury-prone Shaw. If he breaks down again, Carrick will be forced to hastily deploy Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui on the left side.

It's a dreadful situation for a backline that has managed just one clean sheet across all competitions so far this season.
