Manchester United's interest in signing Rafael Leão remains alive after Fenerbahçe officially dismissed reports of a substantial bid coming from Turkey.
Italian media had suggested that Fenerbahçe were prepared to hand AC Milan €50 million ($57 million) for the Portuguese international, along with an additional €50 million in wages throughout the duration of a deal with the Turkish top-flight side.
In a firm statement released on Saturday, which also refuted any attempt to acquire Ermedin Demirović from VfB Stuttgart, Fenerbahçe stated: "Claims that we made an offer of approximately 100 million euros for Rafael Leão, including transfer fee and salary, are also untrue. No such offer has been made to the player or his club."
A left winger remains high on United's summer transfer agenda, with the existing squad short of a natural option in that role—Marcus Rashford is set to return for preseason next month, though all indications suggest a departure before the September deadline remains the preferred outcome for everyone involved.
The Red Devils had previously shown interest in Crysencio Summerville, who has since headed to Saudi Arabia for a fee well above initial projections. Alternatives such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola may prove financially out of reach—with nine-figure valuations—especially given the club's ongoing needs in central midfield, and potentially at left back and in attack if funds permit.
Leão presents a somewhat different scenario, entering the final two years of his Milan contract with his price tag estimated at up to €70 million ($80 million).
The 27-year-old has consistently delivered goals and assists in Serie A across the last seven seasons. His finest campaign came in 2022–23, when he registered 31 goals and 46 assists across Serie A and Champions League outings. A change of scenery could reignite that level of performance.
Leão Ready for 'New Experience'
Leão has already made his intentions clear, expressing an openness to moving on this summer. It's less a demand to leave San Siro and more a curiosity about what opportunities may exist elsewhere.

"I've already spoken with the club about the possibility of trying a new experience," the player said recently, via Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I don't know what will happen, I have to show up at Milanello on [July] 29, and as long as I'm there, I will always give my best and respect the shirt that has given me everything."
