Arsenal have reportedly entered the race as an unexpected contender for Marcus Rashford, whose long-term prospects at Barcelona are looking increasingly doubtful.
Rashford has been on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United throughout 2025–26, with inconsistent performances. The Spanish club hold an option to sign him permanently for a fixed $35.3 million (€30 million, £25.9 million), but are widely expected to pass on it.
There have been suggestions that the financially stretched La Liga champions may attempt to negotiate an even lower fee, though Manchester United are broadly understood to have no interest in accepting such terms. Should Rashford remain at Barcelona at all, it could only be through a further loan arrangement.
While not entirely ruled out, a return to Old Trafford remains uncertain. Ruben Amorim's exit in January would certainly improve those chances, though United don't have an obvious spot for him on the left flank. The key question is whether the relationship can be restored to what it was before 2024, with wages also a concern given Rashford is contractually due a salary increase.
It had been unclear where else the 28-year-old might end up, though the Daily Mail now reports that Arsenal are "monitoring the situation." The same article also references comparable interest from Bayern Munich.
Why Arsenal, Bayern Munich Are Interested in Rashford

Arsenal's left wing is arguably the most vulnerable area of their attack, with Leandro Trossard offering reliability and functionality but limited upside. Yet the Belgian still holds the advantage over Gabriel Martinelli, who has ironically been mentioned as a potential target for Barcelona as a Rashford replacement.
Should Rashford make the move to Arsenal—no financial details have emerged at this point—it would draw comparisons to Danny Welbeck's switch from Manchester to London back in 2014.
The Manchester-born forward had come through United's academy at 17 and made 142 senior appearances before being sold. Unfortunately, his time at Arsenal was hampered by persistent injuries, and it wasn't until he joined Brighton & Hove Albion just before his 30th birthday in 2020 that he rediscovered his best form.
For Bayern, Rashford would represent the club's latest acquisition from the Premier League. Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz have significantly boosted the German side's attacking options after arriving from Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Liverpool respectively. While Rashford may not command a starting berth in Bayern's strongest lineup, he could still serve a valuable role as a flexible backup across all three forward positions.
How Man Utd Could Replace Rashford

Matheus Cunha has been Manchester United's go-to left-wing attacker in recent months. The Brazilian has performed commendably, but the fact remains that his preferred position is central. Mason Mount has also featured there and faces a similar mismatch, while Patrick Dorgu has built his reputation as an attacking fullback rather than a dedicated wide player.
The same Daily Mail report identifies AC Milan's Rafael Leão as one of "a number of options" United could explore. The Portuguese international could be available for around $68 million (£50 million). However, with the possibility that Rashford isn't sold and returns to Manchester, no concrete moves can realistically be made until his future—for at least the coming year—is resolved.
Morgan Rogers has previously been linked, despite the Aston Villa midfielder enjoying his finest form this season as a No. 10—he did net twice against United from the left wing back in December.
RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande is more prominently linked, though he would represent a significant gamble given this is his debut professional season and his valuation could reach nine figures. Anthony Gordon wouldn't come cheap either, but is proven at Premier League level, and Newcastle United may be compelled to offload key players this summer due to financial pressures and failing to secure Champions League qualification.
