Manager Desperately Begs for 'Impossible' Tottenham Star in Shocking Public Appeal
Hamburg's head coach Merlin Polzin has voiced his ambition to prolong the loan arrangement for outstanding Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vušković.
The 18-year-old arrived at the German club during the previous summer transfer window and has subsequently emerged as a crucial component in HSV's fight against relegation. Featuring in all league fixtures except two, the gifted centre-back has netted four times and claimed the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award on three different occasions.
While recognizing the challenges of securing Vušković's loan extension for the 2026–27 campaign, Polzin publicly appealed to retain the Croatian defender for an additional season.
"I stand by my beliefs. Naturally, I also have faith in things that appear impossible, even if they carry a touch of football romanticism," the Hamburg coach stated, according to Bild. "However, there exists a definitive contractual arrangement between the clubs.
"We remain deeply appreciative that we reached an agreement last summer. From the beginning, it was evident with Luka's representatives that HSV was his sole preference. Our dialogue with Tottenham remains exceptionally professional, both during last summer and presently. We would be tremendously interested in seeing him continue in the HSV colors."

Tottenham's £12 million ($16.1 million) investment in Vušković now looks like an incredible bargain. The prospect, who earned his first senior Croatia cap in June and is expected to participate in the 2026 World Cup, has been a game-changing presence for Hamburg.
Beyond being a defensive stalwart for Die Rothosen, Vušković has demonstrated remarkable technical ability and consistently contributes in attack from dead-ball situations—his spectacular scorpion kick during the 3–2 triumph against Werder Bremen earned recognition as the Bundesliga's Goal of the Month for December.
"It extends beyond aerial duels and defensive actions or finding the net: he possesses the ability to marshal a backline. Such qualities are exceptionally rare," German icon and Ballon d'Or recipient Lothar Matthäus commented about Vušković recently.
"At just 18 years old, he performs with the composure of someone who has experienced multiple World Cups! Even at 30, I couldn't perceive what he recognizes at 18."
Vušković also earned the Bundesliga Player of the Season recognition for the opening half of the season, securing 60% of votes and surpassing contenders including Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise in the voting.

Spurs will likely demand Vušković's return to north London following his World Cup participation, bringing much-needed reinforcement to a troubled squad lacking defensive depth. This situation could worsen with Cristian Romero's potential summer departure.
Nevertheless, Vušković has acknowledged his willingness to remain in the Bundesliga with HSV, emphasizing that no definitive choice has been made regarding his immediate or future plans.
"I'm uncertain about what lies ahead; we'll discuss that during the summer. Tottenham remains in consideration since I'm contracted to them until 2030," he informed TPortal. "Therefore, following my possible World Cup involvement, we'll determine our next steps and how to move forward. Personally, I wouldn't object to remaining at HSV."
Vušković's sibling, Mario, currently represents Hamburg but is completing a four-year doping suspension that concludes in November 2026. To share the pitch with his brother, the Tottenham loanee would need to extend his German tenure, something he has previously discussed.
"Mario is scheduled to resume playing in autumn, providing me the opportunity to play alongside him, which represents my greatest aspiration currently. Football is unpredictable, and you can never be certain what will unfold."
