Manchester United Discover Transfer Fee for Elite Premier League Goal Scorer

Manchester United's search for a new striker saw the club evaluate Jean-Philippe Mateta during the early stages of this summer, with fresh reports now disclosing the Frenchman's current market valuation.
Mateta has netted 30 Premier League goals over the past two campaigns while playing for Crystal Palace, with three of those strikes coming in his most recent three matches against United.
The Red Devils have concentrated their summer transfer efforts on strengthening the dual No. 10 positions within Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, securing Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million ($83.75 million) in June while attempting to finalize a deal for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
However, given the shortage of options in the central striker role and Rasmus Højlund's difficulties with just four league goals in the previous campaign, there are clear indications that this position also requires attention.
Many United supporters have shown hesitation about pursuing another signing similar to Højlund or Joshua Zirkzee—young, undeveloped forwards with uncertain long-term prospects. Mateta, while not exceptional, represents a proven Premier League-quality striker.

Despite having considerable experience, the Palace forward has only just reached 28 years old, meaning he's not approaching the twilight of his playing days.
Mateta could provide support and mentorship to someone like Højlund, rather than further damaging the Danish player's confidence by serving as an obvious direct substitute.
The Mateta possibility isn't believed to be something United have pursued since the summer's beginning, but a report from L'Équipe indicates he might represent a budget-friendly alternative. The French publication doesn't reference United but reveals that Mateta is contemplating whether this summer presents an ideal opportunity to transfer since he ultimately "dreams" of joining a more prestigious club than Crystal Palace.
AC Milan have demonstrated interest, which Mateta has welcomed. However, a transfer fee "exceeding" the equivalent of €30 million (£26 million, $34.8 million) has deterred the Italian giants.
For comparison, this figure is lower than what Chelsea invested in Liam Delap during June. Although Delap is six years younger and may possess greater potential, Mateta currently holds superior Premier League credentials and could realistically enhance Manchester United's squad right away.
