Manchester United Eyes Serie A Goalkeeper as Andre Onana's Future Hangs in Balance

Manchester United are reportedly showing interest in Atalanta's goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi as they consider potential replacements for André Onana.

Onana faces scrutiny following two underwhelming campaigns at Old Trafford, and despite his apparent determination to remain and prove himself at United, he has recently acknowledged uncertainty about his future prospects.

Several goalkeepers have emerged as potential successors to Onana, with Italian media increasingly highlighting Carnesecchi as a feasible candidate. Prominent Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport has recently reported United's pursuit, suggesting the Red Devils have made inquiries regarding the financial requirements for a possible transfer.

Atalanta have reportedly informed United that securing the 24-year-old's services would require a €50 million (£42.6 million, $58.5 million) investment, with the uncapped Italy international having three years left on his current deal.

Currently, United have not initiated formal negotiations for Carnesecchi. Reports suggest their backup option is Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez, who is believed to be interested in joining the Red Devils should he depart Villa Park.

United's financial situation will likely play a crucial role in their decision-making. They are close to completing the signing of Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo for approximately £65 million ($89.2 million), which would bring their summer expenditure to nearly £130 million ($178.4 million) after previously acquiring Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Club executives are looking to generate revenue through the departures of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford, though they may require a direct resolution regarding Onana before pursuing a new goalkeeper.

Monaco have expressed interest in acquiring Onana, but numerous reports emphasize the Cameroon international's preference to stay at Old Trafford during this transfer window.

Additionally, Portuguese media have identified Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, a long-standing United target, as someone who has caught Amorim's attention.
