Manchester United Launch Shock Loan Move for Rival Club's Goalkeeper
Manchester United's attempt to secure Aston Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez through a loan arrangement for the coming campaign has been unsuccessful, according to recent reports.
Following the completion of Bryan Mbeumo's signing, United are now focusing on resolving additional squad deficiencies. The goalkeeper position remains a priority concern for head coach Ruben Amorim, particularly as regular first-choice André Onana faces potential absence at the Premier League season's commencement due to fitness issues.
Martínez has been identified as a key target for United, with reports surfacing recently that the Red Devils were investigating cost-free methods to acquire the Argentine international. While a player exchange was their initial preference, the Daily Mail reports that a loan proposal has now been submitted.
The temporary transfer suggestion to Old Trafford was presented over the weekend, however Villa management reportedly dismissed the proposal immediately, with numerous Villa Park personnel described as "astounded" by the loan request to a club with comparable Premier League objectives.
The World Cup champion recently committed to a fresh five-year deal last summer and carries an estimated valuation of approximately £40 million ($53.9 million). Villa will only consider permanent transfer proposals for Martínez, who reportedly desires a switch to Manchester.
United are currently concentrating on player departures while assessing available options across multiple positions, including the striker role. Their transfer targets will likely depend on revenue generated through these sales.
Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens represents a more affordable option for United, who currently maintain three senior goalkeepers including Onana, Altay Bayındır and backup Tom Heaton.
Onana reportedly wishes to remain and compete for his position at Old Trafford, potentially creating obstacles for pursuing another costly goalkeeper such as Martínez. Bayındır was expected to seek a departure this summer for increased playing opportunities, though substantial interest in the 27-year-old has yet to materialize.
