Manchester United Suffers Major Injury Crisis That Could Force Emergency Transfer Move

Manchester United may face a significant setback with goalkeeper André Onana potentially sidelined for up to two months following a training injury.
The Red Devils have been concentrating on bolstering Ruben Amorim's attacking options, although their high-profile chase for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo appears to be stalling as United wait patiently to secure a deal.
Matheus Cunha has already arrived and integrated well at United—taking over Marcus Rashford's iconic number 10 jersey at Old Trafford—however, there's been a concerning shortage of transfers both in and out of the club.
United have been connected with acquiring a new shot-stopper, with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez reportedly among their targets, and this pursuit may now gain urgency following reports of Onana's training ground setback.
The Telegraph suggests that United fear Onana might be absent for six to eight weeks, potentially missing the opening month of the 2025–26 Premier League campaign. Currently, Altay Bayındır would likely be promoted to the starting position, with experienced keeper Tom Heaton serving as another alternative.

There are also considerable expectations for 21-year-old Radek Vítek, though leaping directly into United's first team ahead of Bayındır might be too ambitious considering his latest loan experience was in Austria with BW Linz.
Being without Onana for such an extended duration would certainly represent a setback for United and Amorim, although there have been suggestions that the Cameroon goalkeeper might be permitted to depart this summer if a suitable bid, approximately £30 million ($40.5 million), were submitted.
French powerhouse Lyon, who recently had an imposed relegation to the second division reversed following an appeal, have been mentioned as possible destinations, alongside AS Monaco. Nevertheless, Onana is reportedly content at United, despite facing considerable criticism after several notable mistakes.
The 29-year-old has spent two seasons at United after being recruited from Inter by his former Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag. He has since featured in more than 100 matches across all competitions, with his most recent appearance coming in United's defeat to Premier League opponents Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final—a result that cost the club Champions League qualification and any European competition participation.
