Marc Guehi Breaks Silence on Liverpool Transfer Rumors: 'To Be Honest'
Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guéhi has reassured supporters of the London outfit that he stays "committed" entirely to his present club amid persistent speculation continuing to connect him with a potential transfer to Liverpool.
Guéhi notably came close to joining Liverpool within hours during the final day of the summer transfer period, but talks broke down when Palace couldn't find an adequate replacement.
Media coverage following that unsuccessful transfer suggested Guéhi felt "frustrated" with Palace for blocking his desired move to the current Premier League title holders. Club owner Steve Parish indicated they would need to consider any reasonable bid for a player whose contract expires in under 12 months, though it was reportedly head coach Oliver Glasner who opposed the potential transaction.
Guéhi has consistently avoided commenting on the matter in recent months. Nevertheless, he was prompted to express gratitude toward Palace supporters during his pre-match media duties before a Conference League match against Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday.
"I haven't got much to add, honestly," the England defender stated. "I'm concentrated on performing and representing this team. But to the supporters [I want to express] my sincere appreciation for your backing. I truly appreciate it."
Unlike other players involved in summer transfer discussions who refused to play to push through moves, Guéhi has featured in all 10 of Palace's matches this campaign, strengthening his bond with the fanbase. This doesn't guarantee he'll stay at Selhurst Park past 2026.
Liverpool Face Competition for Guéhi's Signature
Liverpool might have failed to land Guéhi during the summer window, but the Merseyside club is anticipated to return for the composed defender in 2026. Early indications suggest a January bid is improbable—it would certainly cost more than waiting for his contract to run down in June—though these assessments were made before Giovanni Leoni suffered his ACL injury, leaving Arne Slot with only three senior natural center-backs.
Despite Guéhi's clear attachment to Crystal Palace, it seems very doubtful he will extend his stay in south London. Should a 25-year-old established England international regarded as among the world's finest center-backs become available without a fee, Liverpool won't be alone in their pursuit.
Financially struggling Barcelona were promptly mentioned as potential suitors for Guéhi, while clubs including Juventus and Bayern Munich have also been associated with interest in the highly-rated defender.
