Marcus Rashford has reportedly turned down any overtures from Fenerbahçe, a club that has already snapped up several of the English winger's ex-Manchester United colleagues.
A defining storyline of this summer's transfer window has been the aggressive spending of Turkish clubs. The Süper Lig boasts the fifth-highest net expenditure of any league on the planet this summer, surpassing the likes of Germany's Bundesliga and France's Ligue 1. And that figure doesn't even account for high-profile free transfers such as Dušan Vlahović, Fabinho, and Mohamed Salah.
The priciest Turkish signing of the summer was Mason Greenwood's $45 million (€39 million at the time of the deal) transfer to Fenerbahçe back in July. The former Manchester United academy product shared a dressing room with Rashford at Old Trafford, as did Romelu Lukaku, who departed Napoli for Fener earlier this month. Former Manchester City center back Nathan Aké also joined last season's runners-up during the summer window.
Rashford had been targeted as another headline signing during a lavish window for Fenerbahçe, particularly following their Champions League qualification, but that possibility has been firmly shut down, according to The Times. While Barcelona appear reluctant to revisit last season's loanee and a temporary move to Arsenal seems highly unlikely, Rashford's near-term future looks set to remain at Old Trafford.
Given everything the 28-year-old has endured over the past year and a half, that's not necessarily an unwelcome outcome.
Marcus Rashford Eyeing End of 631-Day Drought
Rashford was introduced for the second half of Manchester United's woeful defeat to Hull City in Yorkshire last weekend. That 2–0 loss marked the academy product's first competitive appearance for the Red Devils in any form since December 2024. On Sunday afternoon, he is set to make his first appearance back at Old Trafford in 631 days.
Few among the 73,000 packed into the stadium to watch United fall 3–2 to Nottingham Forest 20 months ago could have foreseen it taking this long for Rashford to feature at the Theatre of Dreams once more. Ruben Amorim's rigid exclusion of the winger saw him sidelined and eventually sent out on two separate loan spells before circumstances brought him back to Manchester.
With Michael Carrick now at the helm (at least for the time being), Rashford is poised to play a meaningful role this season. The dynamic forward was one of the few bright spots in a dismal opening to the new campaign against Hull and could well earn a starting berth for Sunday's home fixture against Ipswich Town.
Man Utd 'in Talks' Over Joshua Zirkzee Exit
While Rashford appears likely to stay, the outlook for Joshua Zirkzee is far less certain. The same Times report indicates that United are in discussions with Fiorentina over a loan deal with an obligation to buy for the goal-shy striker.
Fiorentina, who have spent heavily in hopes of making the club's 100th anniversary a memorable one, are reportedly prepared to pay up to $5.8 million (£4.3 million) simply for Zirkzee on loan. United are keen to include a mandatory purchase clause in the arrangement that would compel Fiorentina to commit approximately $29.1 million (£21.5 million) toward a permanent deal for the striker next summer.
The eagerness to move on from Zirkzee is easy to understand. Since Ruben Amorim took charge in November 2024, the Dutch striker has managed just four Premier League goals across 45 appearances. Over the same stretch, Rashford can point to three top-flight goals for United in only five outings.
The club's new No. 9 could realistically step in as backup to center forward Benjamin Šeško, who is already competing for playing time with Bryan Mbeumo. Rashford's natural position remains on the left flank, where he will be vying for a spot with Patrick Dorgu, a converted fullback, and the unpredictable Matheus Cunha. Any reunion with Fenerbahçe's growing collection of Manchester United cast-offs will have to wait.
