Maresca Delivers Ultimatum: Jackson and Nkunku Must "Find a Solution" or Face Chelsea Exit

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has revealed that both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are still not available for team selection as the transfer window enters its final stretch, encouraging the pair of attackers to secure moves elsewhere.

Nkunku's departure was anticipated this summer following two seasons of limited playing time, while Jackson has been directed toward an exit following the acquisitions of Liam Delap and João Pedro.

Different from other members of the so-called "bomb squad"—Chelsea's group of surplus players including Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell—both Jackson and Nkunku continue participating in Maresca's first-team training sessions, though neither is being included in matchday rosters while the transfer market stays active.

"[Jackson] is fit but won't be included in the squad because, as we've mentioned before, we have two strikers, we have two players for that role and we're aware that developments could occur before the transfer window shuts," Maresca explained to reporters before Friday's clash with West Ham United.

"Christo [Nkunku] is training with us like Nico, but the situation is identical to Nico's."

The fact that Jackson and Nkunku remain in first-team training suggests both could potentially stay at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea reportedly particularly willing to retain Jackson if their valuation isn't matched, though Maresca acknowledged both would face limited playing opportunities if they stay.

"We'll wait and see if they remain here, they'll continue with us," the Chelsea manager stated, "...and if they're not here, it means they've found an alternative.

"Ultimately I believe it's preferable if they can secure a move because I think they'll be happier and so will the club."

Luckily for Chelsea, both players are believed to have generated significant interest. Nkunku is desired by Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig for a return to Germany, while Inter are also reportedly keen.

Regarding Jackson, the Senegal striker has similarly been linked with Bayern but has multiple Premier League suitors. Aston Villa are considered the frontrunners while Newcastle United view him as a potential acquisition.
