Mark Your Calendar: Here's Exactly When the 2026 Summer Transfer Window Kicks Off!

The World Cup will command global attention this summer, but off the pitch, a whirlwind of transfer activity is set to unfold during and after the tournament held in North America.

Last summer's transfer window was defined by extravagant spending—largely driven by Premier League clubs—and a string of headline-grabbing moves, and a similar pattern is anticipated this year even as international football takes center stage.

Clubs from around the globe will aggressively pursue game-changing signings ahead of the 2026–27 season, with Europe's elite expected to once again demonstrate their considerable financial power.

But when exactly can clubs get their business underway? Here's a complete guide to this summer's transfer window.

Transfer windows across Europe's major leagues will open on varying dates, with the Premier League getting the ball rolling ahead of its rivals. English top-flight clubs can commence their recruitment activity on Monday, June 15.

Serie A is the next to open on June 29, with La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga following closely behind, all commencing transfers on July 1.

The Saudi Pro League opens slightly later on July 22, while Major League Soccer's mid-season window gets underway from July 13.

Clubs may reach pre-agreements with players before their respective transfer window officially launches, though deals cannot be formally registered until the window opens.

Free agents, however, are permitted to sign with new clubs at any time.

When Does the Summer Transfer Window Close?

Despite launching two weeks ahead of other leagues, the Premier League's window will still wrap up around the same time as the rest of Europe's top five divisions.

All transactions must be finalized by August 31 in both the Premier League and the Bundesliga, while La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 close their windows one day later. The MLS summer window shuts on September 2.

Once those deadlines have passed, clubs will have no choice but to wait for the winter transfer window before pursuing further additions.

Which Players Will Make Transfers This Summer?

A host of marquee names are certain to change clubs this summer, irrespective of their World Cup participation. High-profile free agents including Mohamed Salah, Robert Lewandowski and Bernardo Silva are all expected to secure new destinations, while eye-watering fees will be spent on talent across the globe.

Argentine pair Enzo Fernández and Julián Alvarez are among the star names reportedly pushing for exits, while significant investment will be needed to land rising stars such as Yan Diomande, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

Premier League clubs are poised to be the top spenders once again following their record-breaking outlay last summer, though Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich all possess the financial firepower to rival England's biggest clubs.
