Martin Zubimendi Sends Bold Warning to Man Utd: "We Like to Win" Before Crucial Showdown

Martín Zubimendi declared that the "finest moments are still ahead" for an ambitious Arsenal squad following his impressive display in the club's preseason finale against Athletic Club on Saturday.

The Spanish midfielder excelled in what appears to be Arsenal's preferred starting formation for their Premier League curtain-raiser against Manchester United this upcoming weekend, dictating play and setting up Viktor Gyökeres for the Swedish striker's opening goal.

"It's a positive conclusion to our preparation period, but our peak performance is still to come," he shared with the club's official website. "Ultimately, competitive football is what matters most. We thrive on competition; we desire victory. I'm delighted that the season is beginning now."

Zubimendi transferred from Real Sociedad to Arsenal during the summer window in a transaction valued at approximately £60 million ($81.9 million). He had been a persistent transfer objective for the Gunners, with speculation suggesting the deal was essentially finalized back in January.

The Spain international is regarded as someone who can elevate both the minimum and maximum performance levels in midfield, with aspirations to further unlock his new colleagues' capabilities, who have facilitated his transition to England.

"The integration was seamless, my teammates made everything effortless for me," Zubimendi expressed enthusiastically. "I believe the entire squad has meshed together excellently, and everyone both on and off the field has been incredibly welcoming. [Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard] are exceptional talents, among the finest in their respective roles. Now it's about learning, adjusting, and most importantly, savoring the experience."

Zubimendi has featured regularly throughout preseason and appeared comfortable, though the Athletic Club encounter provided an opportunity to witness Arsenal's revamped midfield operating as a unit. Despite an uncertain beginning, the trio contributed to the Gunners' finest display of their summer preparations in a commanding 3–0 triumph.

"This match held significance because we were coming off two losses," Zubimendi reflected. "While they were exhibition games, this organization doesn't accept defeat in any situation, so securing this victory and concluding preseason positively was crucial.

"Indeed, this squad must be prepared for all scenarios, whether facing adversity or success, with the ultimate goal being victory," he added. "Hopefully, we can navigate these challenging encounters and achieve remarkable things."

Beyond club management, players and personnel, Zubimendi expressed gratitude for the backing he's received since his Asian debut.

"I experienced it firsthand during our Asian tour. This is ultimately a club with global reach. Upon my arrival, those two matches were extraordinary. Despite not winning the previous game, the atmosphere was phenomenal, and today it was even more special."

Arsenal commence their Premier League season on Sunday, Aug. 17 facing Manchester United at Old Trafford. This encounter carries significant weight for the Gunners considering their challenging season opener is followed by matches against Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United within their first six fixtures.
