Kylian Mbappé has firmly stated he would never do anything as "disrespectful" as encouraging Michael Olise to leave Bayern Munich for Real Madrid, while praising his French international teammate as an "outstanding player."
Olise's name dominated summer transfer speculation, as Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez sought a marquee signing following his successful re-election victory.
Pérez hinted at a €150 million ($170 million) bid for an unnamed player during the transfer window. Although he explicitly denied the target was Olise, speculation continued to swirl that the Bayern Munich forward was firmly at the top of Madrid's transfer wishlist.
Amid the ongoing rumors, Bayern president Uli Hoeness made clear the club would not sell Olise "even for €200 million [$228 million]."
With Olise tied down until 2029 and seemingly untouchable, Madrid instead made 19-year-old RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande their record signing this summer. Whether Madrid will revisit their pursuit of Olise in future windows remains an open question.
'Every Club Would Love to Have Olise'—Mbappé
When asked by BILD whether he would have welcomed Olise joining Madrid, Mbappé stressed it would be "disrespectful" to actively try to convince his France teammate, though he hinted he would relish the chance to play alongside him at club level.
"I've been aware of the speculation," he said. "But I know that feeling all too well myself: when I was a PSG player, there were countless rumors. And I think it would be disrespectful to advise a player to leave.
"That would be unfair to Bayern. Especially since Bayern is a fantastic club where Michael can achieve a great deal. But one thing is clear: every club in the world would love to have Michael Olise. He's an outstanding player."
Could Olise Still Join Real Madrid?
An exceptional 2025–26 campaign, in which he contributed 27 goals and 35 assists across club and international duty, thrust Olise into the conversation as a genuine Ballon d'Or contender. He was also crowned Bayern Munich's Player of the Season during a record-setting Bundesliga title run and played a pivotal role for France in their run to the World Cup semifinals.
The former Crystal Palace winger has carried that momentum into the current campaign, netting eight goals in seven appearances at the start of 2026–27.
His rapid rise has established him as one of football's most sought-after talents, and Mbappé is correct that virtually every club on the planet would eagerly accommodate the 24-year-old. Whether any side could realistically lure him away from Bavaria, however, is an entirely different question.
With three years remaining on his deal, it appears highly unlikely that Bayern would consider parting with such a prized asset while he is in the peak years of his career.
Nevertheless, Pérez is not known for accepting rejection and is unlikely to abandon his pursuit quietly. The 79-year-old spent a decade chasing Mbappé and could invest a comparable level of persistence in convincing Olise to make his next move to the Spanish capital.
The depth of Madrid's long-term interest may ultimately hinge on how Diomande performs, given that the young star has been identified to fill a comparable role on the right flank.
