Mbappe Sparks Injury Scare in France Friendly, Leaving Recovery Timeline Shrouded in Uncertainty

Kylian Mbappé was substituted early in the second half of France's clash against Türkiye after appearing to sustain a left knee injury.

France's skipper netted the opening goal of the Zinedine Zidane era with Les Bleus but seemingly hurt himself in doing so. Mbappé received a pass on the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a thunderous effort to hand his side the advantage 54 minutes into the game.

However, Mbappé was unable to even celebrate what proved to be the winning goal, immediately hobbling and wincing in pain as he clutched his left knee. After receiving treatment on the touchline, Mbappé briefly returned to the field.

The Real Madrid attacker remained in obvious discomfort, though, and eventually dropped to the ground and gestured to the bench that he was unable to carry on. Mbappé was taken off by Désiré Doué in the 59th minute, limping as he made his way off the pitch.

Zidane's France managed to coast to a 1–0 victory, but attention has now shifted entirely to Mbappé's fitness.

What Injury Does Kylian Mbappe Have?

Nothing appeared unusual in the movement of Mbappé's goal, yet it was evident he felt something go wrong.

Mbappé buried his face in his hands on the touchline and again as he sank to the ground before leaving the pitch, repeatedly clutching his left knee with a look of deep concern on his face.

The extent of the injury remains unclear, and further medical assessments will undoubtedly follow in the hours and days ahead to reach a definitive diagnosis. Nevertheless, it is a worrying sign given the 27-year-old's recent injury record.

The Frenchman was forced to sit out matches on two separate occasions with a left knee problem during the 2025–26 season, causing him to miss seven games across all competitions for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos and France will be anxiously hoping that Mbappé suffered nothing more than a scare and that he won't face another extended spell on the sidelines with a recurring issue.

Whatever the diagnosis reveals, the image of Mbappé gingerly trudging off the pitch is a worst-case scenario for both Los Blancos and Les Bleus, just one match into the September-October international break.
