Mbappe Stuns Bernabeu With Historic Milestone as Real Madrid Dismantle Real Sociedad

Real Madrid gave the Bernabéu faithful plenty to celebrate on Wednesday, cruising to a commanding 4–1 victory over Real Sociedad to record back-to-back wins under José Mourinho.

It was another sluggish opening for the 15-time European champions, but Kylian Mbappé eventually took charge. The Frenchman broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, leaving defenders flat-footed with a slick move before drilling home a left-footed finish.

Real Sociedad pulled level just four minutes later through Luka Sučić, but that proved to be the extent of the visitors' threat as Real Madrid unleashed a second-half barrage. Mbappé and Jude Bellingham linked up brilliantly with a neat one-two to restore Los Blancos' advantage around the hour mark, before Vinícius Júnior converted a stunning Bellingham buildup to make it 3–1 in the 68th minute.

The Brazilian then switched to provider mode, teeing up Mbappé's hat-trick to effectively seal the contest for the visitors in the 80th minute. Brahim Díaz thought he had added a fifth in stoppage time, but the offside flag ruled out the effort.

Real Madrid now enjoy a brief rest before returning to La Liga action against Málaga on Sunday.

One Thing We Can't Ignore

Mbappé was kept quiet in Real Madrid's opener against Espanyol. It was an incredibly frustrating evening for the Frenchman, who attempted 10 shots without finding the net. It appeared history was repeating itself on Wednesday, but a single moment of brilliance was all it took for the forward to turn the tide.

Just five minutes after boos echoed around the packed Bernabéu, Mbappé silenced the frustration by netting the game's first goal. The 27-year-old had his second by the hour mark and completed his treble when the clock struck 80.

Mbappé has now reached—and gone beyond—the century mark for goal contributions at Real Madrid. Since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the 2024–25 campaign, the prolific forward has accumulated 101 G/A for the Spanish club.

No major silverware has accompanied his remarkable numbers, but that second-half display from Mourinho's side may just have supporters beginning to believe in Los Blancos' ability to reclaim top honors.

AM: Jude Bellingham—8.9: So dangerous on the break that Real Sociedad resorted to persistent fouling to stop him. Had the last laugh with an assist for Mbappé's second and was simply outstanding in setting up Vinícius Jr. Looks every bit his former self.

LW: Vinícius Júnior—8.6: Spurned a golden opportunity in the first half that he would normally put away. Quickly made the Bernabéu forget with a composed tap-in to get off the mark, then capped an impressive display with a sublime assist for Mbappé's hat-trick.

ST: Kylian Mbappé—9.8: Looked sharp from the outset and was rewarded with his first goal of the season. Wasted other openings that could have given Real Madrid a comfortable lead before the break, but atoned with another strike after the restart. Completed his hat-trick to reach 101 goal contributions in a Real Madrid shirt.
