Mbappe's Ankle Injury Forces Crucial Career Decision as Concerns Mount
Kylian Mbappé has been withdrawn from the France national team and will head back to Real Madrid for medical assessment of an ankle problem, according to an official announcement from the French Football Federation.
Mbappé joined the France training camp with a slight ankle concern, though coach Didier Deschamps downplayed its significance before Friday's commanding 3–0 win against Azerbaijan.
Despite the concern, he was considered ready to feature in the starting lineup and managed to find the net during first-half added time. However, Mbappé was unable to see out the match after receiving a knock to his ankle in the 83rd minute, forcing him to exit the field visibly distressed.
As a precautionary measure, Mbappé will not face any additional risk and has been sent back to the Spanish capital for comprehensive medical evaluation.
"Following the French squad's return to Clairefontaine (Yvelines), the captain of the national team had discussions with Didier Deschamps. He will be unavailable for Monday, October 13 (8:45 p.m.) in Reykjavik against Iceland," stated an official FFF release.
"The head coach has approved his departure. Kylian Mbappé has been released to return to his club and will not be substituted."

France should comfortably handle Monday's encounter with Iceland in Mbappé's absence, though Real Madrid supporters will be anxiously waiting for news regarding the extent of his injury as domestic competition resumes, including the highly anticipated clash with Barcelona in the coming weeks.
This international window has proven challenging for Madrid, with Mbappé's setback adding to a series of injury concerns affecting Xabi Alonso's roster.
Defender Dean Huijsen pulled out of the Spain squad earlier in the week, while Friday also witnessed Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono being forced to return to his club due to a muscular problem.
Madrid are scheduled to visit Getafe on Oct. 19 before hosting Juventus in Champions League action three days afterward, though the spotlight remains firmly on Oct. 26 and the Clásico showdown with Barcelona at the Bernabéu.
