Real Madrid are reportedly being cautious with Kylian Mbappé's rehabilitation, even if it means the French international remains on the sidelines when league play resumes next weekend.
Concern swept through the Spanish capital when Mbappé collapsed in pain while on international duty with France during the September-October break. The 27-year-old was substituted off in the 59th minute against Türkiye and subsequently pulled out of international commitments with a knee injury.
Real Madrid confirmed that Mbappé had been diagnosed with hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee. The standard recovery timeline for such an injury is approximately two weeks, which conveniently aligns with the club's return to competitive action against Villarreal on Oct. 10.
However, SPORT reports that Los Blancos are leaving nothing to chance with their top scorer. The primary goal is to have Mbappé fully recovered in time for El Clásico later in the month.
José Mourinho is set to carefully manage the Frenchman's minutes over the coming weeks, minimizing any risks that could result in a setback and potentially rule Mbappé out of the trip to Camp Nou. With Barcelona already six points clear of Real Madrid in the La Liga table, there is absolutely no margin for error when the two rivals meet for the first time this campaign.

Will Mbappé Start for Real Madrid Against Villarreal?

Under normal circumstances, Mbappé would be a certainty to lead Mourinho's attack against Villarreal. However, an imminent Clásico and a history of knee issues could prompt the Portuguese manager to field a starting lineup without the star forward.
Losing Mbappé is a significant setback for Real Madrid; the former Paris Saint-Germain captain burst out of the blocks this season, registering 10 goal contributions in eight appearances. He tops the scoring charts with eight goals — the next best is Jude Bellingham with three.
The silver lining is that Carlos Espí, who was recently called up by Spain as cover for the injured Ferran Torres, offers a capable alternative in attack. The striker has featured for just 26 minutes this season yet has already netted twice, with both goals earning three points for the 15-time European champions.
Endrick is another option should Mbappé be restricted to the bench. The 20-year-old is finally earning minutes with Brazil and contributed an assist in the side's 4–2 victory over Australia. Unfortunately for the youngster, he currently sits behind Espí in Mourinho's order of preference.
Pressure Is Mounting on Vinícius Junior

Should Real Madrid opt to limit Mbappé's playing time, the onus will fall on Vinícius Júnior to shoulder much of the attacking responsibility. Typically, the Brazilian performs better when the French star is absent, but a sluggish start to the season is fueling growing concerns.
Having signed a lucrative six-year contract extension with the club over the summer, Vinícius Jr has managed just one goal and three assists so far. Even more worrying than his modest output is the overall quality of his performances.
The winger is badly squandering chances he would ordinarily convert. His defensive contribution has dropped to an all-time low — and that is saying something. He is even struggling to manufacture opportunities, to the extent that he was substituted in each of Real Madrid's last two matches. Vinícius Jr lasted only 68 minutes against Elche and just 54 minutes against Atlético Madrid.
Perhaps a fresh environment and a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti will see him return to the Bernabéu revitalized and refocused. But if his poor form and lack of end product persist, Mourinho may find himself compelled to fast-track Mbappé back into the starting lineup.
