Meet Nicolo Tresoldi: The Explosive Striker Sending Premier League Giants Into a Fierce Bidding Frenzy

A heated transfer battle involving some of Europe's most prestigious clubs appears to be taking shape as they look to land 22-year-old Club Brugge center forward Nicolò Tresoldi.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the striker. Last summer, reports suggested Tresoldi had emerged as a potential backup option for Barcelona had they missed out on Julián Alvarez. Serie A heavyweights AC Milan and Juventus are also linked to the in-demand forward, though the financial firepower of rival clubs may put him out of reach for the Italian sides.

It appears to be only a question of when, not if, Tresoldi departs Belgium to join one of Europe's elite clubs. Top-quality strikers are a rare commodity, and it seems several of the continent's best sides see that elite potential in Tresoldi.

Many fans, however, have never heard of him, let alone watched him play.

Why European Giants Want Nicolò Tresoldi

Tresoldi was born in Italy to longtime Serie A journeyman Emanuele Tresoldi, but as a teenager he relocated to Germany to further his development within the Hannover 96 academy setup.

The forward made his professional debut with Hannover and established himself as a regular contributor as the club competed in Bundesliga 2 during the 2024–25 campaign. Despite managing just seven goals in 34 league outings, Club Brugge snapped him up in the summer of 2025 for a modest €7.5 million ($8.8 million). In Belgium, Tresoldi truly came alive.

An impressive debut campaign at Club Brugge saw Tresoldi net 19 goals across the regular season and playoffs—more than any other player in the division—helping Brugge clinch the league title. He also found the net three times in his first Champions League season, with strikes against Barcelona and Atlético Madrid among them.

The 2026–27 season, however, has marked Tresoldi's true arrival on the big stage. He has already registered 13 goals in 15 appearances for Brugge, highlighted by a hat-trick in a thrilling 4–3 victory over Inter Milan that announced him to a global audience. He boasts four Champions League goals in three matches and eight in 10 league appearances.

He has also netted 10 goals in 10 matches for Germany's U-21 side throughout their U-21 Euros qualifying campaign. Born in Italy to an Italian father and an Argentine mother, Tresoldi has stated he will wait until after the 2027 U-21 Euros with Germany before deciding which nation he will represent at senior international level.

For now, following such a blistering start to the season, the list of high-profile suitors continues to grow.

Nicolò Tresoldi: A Sure Thing or the Next Bust?

Tresoldi is a textbook No. 9—a striker who thrives inside the penalty box with clinical finishing and a natural instinct for goal-scoring positions. He also possesses underrated combination play—just ask former teammate and current Arsenal winger Christos Tzolis—and his ability to hold up play with his back to goal is another notable asset.

Yet as thrilling as Tresoldi's attributes are and as much room as he has to develop further, there are plenty of cautionary tales that should give big clubs pause, particularly those in the Premier League.

Arsenal invested heavily in Viktor Gyökeres following a sensational season at Sporting CP that earned him the Gerd Müller trophy in 2025. Yet the Swedish forward has struggled considerably since arriving in north London, has failed to cement a place in Mikel Arteta's first-choice lineup, and the Gunners are already on the hunt for a new striker—as evidenced by their reported interest in Tresoldi.

Not long ago, Liverpool thought they had unearthed their own Erling Haaland when they brought in Darwin Núñez after his prolific spell with Benfica in the Portuguese league. After three seasons that generated more memorable misses than goals, the Uruguayan departed Anfield for the Saudi Pro League.

That said, not every story ends in disappointment. Tresoldi has the tools to follow in the footsteps of a former Club Brugge striker who made the step up successfully. Igor Thiago departed the Belgian club for Brentford in the summer of 2024, and only Haaland surpassed Thiago's tally of 22 Premier League goals last season.

Elite strikers are an increasingly scarce resource, and those who are available rarely come without enormous price tags. Top clubs will continue to take chances on young, emerging goal scorers from smaller leagues, hoping they can develop into world-class forwards capable of performing at the very highest level.

Tresoldi looks set to become the next young striker a major European club pins its hopes on. With so many clubs reportedly monitoring his progress, a departure from Club Brugge is beginning to look increasingly inevitable.
